Serie A betting tips and predictions 2023/24

Prediction 1: Salernitana vs Sassuolo: Sassuolo To Win @ 13/10 (2.30)

We kick off our Serie A betting tips with a clash between the bottom two sides. Salernitana are doomed to relegation but Sassuolo are not and that is why we lean towards an away win here. Salernitana have lost each of their last three matches and, at home, they've lost six games on the bounce. Sassuolo meanwhile have taken four points from the last nine available to them, which whilst not great does give them a little confidence.

Prediction 2: Juventus vs Fiorentina: Draw @ 5/2 (3.50)

We now turn our attention to Juventus vs Fiorentina and we're betting that this game ends with the points shared. Juventus come into this match having gone winless in four matches whilst they've won one and drawn two of their last three home games. Fiorentina meanwhile have won one and drawn two of their last three away matches but they've won only one of their last five in more general terms. That means neither side are in great form. With regards to the head to head, the last four meetings have seen Juventus win two, Fiorentina win one and one draw. Notably, neither of Juventus' wins have come by more than the solitary goal making the aggregate scoreline across those four h2h meets 3-3.

Prediction 3: Roma vs Lazio: Under 2.5 Goals @ 8/11 (1.73)

We end our Serie A tips with the Rome Derby as Roma play host to Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico. Vlood, sweat and tears are guaranteed in this game but goals certainly are not and we're betting this match goes under the 2.5 goal mark. Roma and Lazio have both seen their respective last two games go south of the 2.5 threshold whilst the recent head to head history is very low scoring; the last four meetings have produced a grand total of just three goals.

What is Serie A?

Serie A is the Italian equivalent of the Premier League. It's a league for the top teams in Italian football, and currently, it consists of 20 teams. The clubs which finish 18th-20th are transferred to Serie B. The league is also referred to as the “Scudetto” because the winners aren't only awarded the Coppa Campioni d'Italia but also with a scudetto (a particular patch the winners wear the following season).

The tournament is round-robin style where each club meets every other club twice in the season, once at home and once away from home. The league itself is considered one of the top leagues in the world, like the Bundesliga, La Liga, etc.

Key fixtures in most Serie A seasons include the Milan Derby played between AC Milan and Inter Milan, the Rome derby played between Lazio and AS Roma, and the Turin Derby which is played between Juventus and Torino.

Anytime any of the likes of AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus, Napoli, Roma, Lazio or Atalanta play one another in Serie A it tends to bring in a big viewership as these teams are either established as the best teams historically in Italy or have been challenging for the Serie A title or Coppa Italia in recent seasons.

Serie A Winners

Since 1929 Italy's top division has been referred to as Serie A and the first-ever winners of the competition were Ambrosiana-Inter. In recent seasons, the Serie A title has been dominated by Juventus but a couple of other winners have been confirmed in the last two seasons.

Here are some more recent winners of the scudetto.

  • Napoli – 2022/23
  • AC Milan – 2021/22
  • Inter Milan – 2020/21
  • Juventus – 2019/20
  • Juventus – 2018/19
  • Juventus – 2017/18
  • Juventus – 2016/17
  • Juventus – 2015/16

Our Summary on Serie A Predictions

Some people might think that it wouldn't be unusual to wager on one of the regular Serie A winners, but you would be wrong. The stranglehold Juventus had on Serie A is seemingly over for the foreseeable future, though they remain firmly in the title mix for 2023/24. Throw in a host of other sizeable clubs, and Italy is arguably the toughest of Europe's big five leagues to predict.
