Man Utd: Latest Transfer Rumours

We've scoured the internet to find all the latest transfer rumours regarding Man Utd, using only the most reputable sources available. Below you will find all the latest players being linked with moves in and out of the club along with a Football Whispers rumour rating out of five, with 5/5 being an imminent signing and 1/5 being highly unlikely to go through.

Rashford

PSG cool interest in Rashford?

French giants Paris Saint-Germain are already cooling their interest in Marcus Rashford, according to Sky Sports.

The Ligue 1 champions were believed to have been weighing up a move for the out-of-sorts United forward and they received encouragement about a possible deal when they held talks with Rashford’s brother and agent, Dwaine.

However, shortly after details about that meeting surfaced, more stories were leaked from Rashford’s camp to say that he was happy at United and was committed to his hometown club.

While Rashford only has one year left on his current contract with the Red Devils, United have the option to trigger an extra year in the deal, giving them a strong hand in any potential negotiations.

PSG are in the market for another attacker, though they are unlikely to be interested in Rashford if he is valued at anywhere near £100m – a fee United are sure to demand for his services.

Rashford has endured a torrid time at United over the past two years with a combination of injuries, poor performance and dwindling confidence impacting his relationship with supporters.

Like most of his teammates, the 24-year-old has started the new campaign in miserable form, though hope remains that Erik ten Hag can get Rashford back to his best this season.

United open to selling Garner?

Things aren’t exactly going smoothly for Manchester United and their new manager Erik ten Hag, and the club’s disgruntled fanbase could be up in arms again if The Athletic’s report about James Garner is true.

They say that United are open to selling the highly-regarded midfielder before the transfer window closes and that a number of Premier League sides are already vying for his signature.

Garner spent last season on loan in the Championship with Nottingham Forest, where he played an integral role at the base of their midfield during the club’s run to promotion.

The 21-year-old was expected to make inroads into United’s first team upon his return to Manchester, though it looks as though he has already been made surplus to requirements by ten Hag.

The news will likely baffle many, especially when you consider how poor the current United midfield is performing and how few options they have in that position overall.

The Athletic claim that United would be open to selling Garner for as little as £14m, which seems staggeringly little in today’s market.

Icardi interested in United move?

Man Utd have put the feelers out about a possible move for controversial striker Mauro Icardi, according to Get French Football News.

The Argentine striker has flopped since swapping Inter for PSG in 2019 and it was confirmed by new manager Christophe Galtier that he was available for transfer this summer.

Icardi has struggled to hold down a place in the Parisians’ star-studded line up over the past two seasons and the 29-year-old would be open to resurrecting his career in the Premier League.

The centre-forward comes with plenty of baggage however, and in their current state of flux, United would probably be wise to avoid pursuing his signature.

FW rumour rating: 1/5

New name on striker list for United?

Manchester United have opened negotiations with Espanyol to discuss a move for striker Raul de Tomas, according to Spanish outlet, Cope.

Cope have suggested that Espanyol would be willing to do a deal for the 27-year-old for a fee in the region of €25m to €30m.

They also indicate that Tomas is just one of a number of options in attack that United are currently considering.

Tomas notched an impressive 17 goals in 34 La Liga appearances for an Espanyol side that only managed to finish 14th last term.

The centre-forward had been linked with Arsenal earlier in the summer, while Bayern Munich were also rumoured to be considering him as a possible successor to Robert Lewandowski.

Tomas is seen as something of a late bloomer and he was only capped by Spain for the first time last year. He began his career in the Real Madrid academy system and enjoyed a short spell with Benfica before returning to his homeland with Espanyol in 2020.

United back in for Caicedo?

Manchester United are among a number of clubs considering a swoop for up-and-coming Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, according to The Mirror.

The powerful midfielder ran the show at Old Trafford last week when Brighton turned United over and his performance added more weight to his already burgeoning reputation.

Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen are all named as other interested parties, however, Brighton would be reluctant to part with their enforcer having already raked in over £100m in transfer fees over the summer.

United came close to signing Caicedo under previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, before they ultimately pulled the plug on a £4.5m deal in February 2021, allowing Brighton to nab him themselves.

Now, United would likely have to part with ten times that fee just a little over a year later, further highlighting the club’s shambolic recruitment policy.

Albion are under no pressure to cash in on the 20-year-old Ecuadorian international however, and any move before September 1st seems very unlikely.

FW rumour rating: 1/5

United line up Brazilian schemer

TEAMtalk have published a report saying that Manchester United have ramped up their interest in signing Flamengo midfielder Joao Gomes before the transfer window slam shut.

The young Brazilian midfielder is believed to be valued at around £32m by his current employers and TEAMtalk say that United are ready to put the wheels in motion on a deal.

Recently, Gomes revealed that United’s rivals Liverpool would be a more favourable destination, however.

While taking part in a live-streaming event on Instagram hosted by ESPN, the 21-year-old said:  “Liverpool are a team I’d play for. I have the greatest desire to play.

“Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and that of my family, my biggest dream in football.”

However, there has been little indication of any genuine interest in Gomes from Anfield, which could open the door for United to steal in.

Journalist Julio Miguel Neto gave this update on the situation, saying that United were indeed interested in Gomes and that Flamengo president admitted that the youngster could leave the club before the end of the summer.

This rumour seems tenuous at best however, with little concrete evidence of any deal being lined up published anywhere else. Gomes' pro-Liverpool comments are unlikely to have gone down well with the decision-makers at United too.

Last Week's Man Utd Transfer Rumours

Marko Arnautović scores for West Ham United

Arnautovic set for shock switch?

Shortly after Manchester United’s dismal opening weekend defeat to Brighton Sunday, stories started to break linking the club with a shock move for Austrian attacker Marko Arnautovic.

Sky Sports lead the charge, claiming that United even had a bid in the region of £8m rejected for the former West Ham attacker, as the Red Devils move to strengthen their weak options in the final third.

Arnautovic – who turned 33 in April – has worked under both Erik ten Hag and Steve McClaren during his career and the versatile forward has appeared over 100 times for his country.

However, Arnautovic’s potential move to Manchester has been met by stiff criticism online from supporters and journalists alike, with the deal widely considered as further evidence of United’s decline.

Arnautovic has spent the last three years of his career between the Chinese Super League and Serie A, and with United’s rivals gunning for top-tier talent like Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez, a move for Arnatuovic feels like bargain basket rooting in comparison.

Unfortunately for United, this rumour seems to have plenty of legs however, and with one official bid already rejected, we expect this deal to eventually progress.

FW rumour rating: 4/5

Enquiry made for Leroy Sane?

According to the Mirror, Manchester United have put the feelers out to see if the acquisition of Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane would be feasible.

The 26-year-old has become something of a peripheral figure at the Bundesliga champions, where he started just 22 times in the German top tier last term. The signing of Sadio Mane from Liverpool has pushed him further down the pecking order and the Mirror are hinting that the German international could be open to a fresh start elsewhere.

Sane is a former Manchester City player however, which would complicate any potential switch to Old Trafford. Indeed, Sane famously got a giant tattoo on his back of him donning a Man City shirt – though he has since admitted that he regrets that piece of ink.

Embarrassing body art aside, Sane is unlikely to be all that keen about the prospect of joining a United side in dire straits and if he does want to leave Bayern Munich, he is likely to have a stronger list of suitors to choose from.

Liverpool and PSG are also thought to be hot on Sane’s heels and he would choose either of those options over a transfer to Man Utd.

FW rumour rating: 1/5

United still working hard on Sesko

Alongside the deranged pursuit of Marko Arnautovic, United are also maintaining their chase of in-demand RB Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko, according to the Express (via SportKlub)

United, along with Premier League rivals Chelsea and French title holders PSG, are believed to be battling it out for the 19-year-old’s signature and it is thought that Sesko will make a decision about his future later this week.

Erik ten Hag is desperate for attacking reinforcements, with Anthony Martial injured and Cristiano Ronaldo determined to leave, while Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood have yet to be replaced either.

Sesko went viral on social media earlier in the summer after his goal and match-winning performance for Salzburg in their pre-season encounter with Liverpool. However, Sesko is rumoured to have been on United’s radar for several years.

Salzburg have slapped a huge €50m price tag on the Slovenian’s head in a bid to scare predatory clubs off his trail, though United are hoping to negotiate that fee down to a more reasonable level for a player whose career is still in its infancy.

Some reports have indicated that Sesko would be open to staying in Austria for another year to continue his development, however, this story should have greater clarity before the weekend.

FW rumour rating: 3/5

Manchester United

Ziyech on United’s wish list?

United boss Erik ten Hag is keen on a reunion for Moroccan winger Hakim Ziyech, according to the Daily Mail, though the Dutch coach is having trouble convincing his new employers about the merits of a deal.

Ziyech enjoyed the best spell of his career under ten Hag at Ajax between 2017 and 2020 when he won numerous trophies and notched 49 goals in 164 appearances.

His performances in the Netherlands and the Champions League for Ajax earned him a money-spinning move to Chelsea, though Ziyech has failed to make much of an impact since.

The 29-year-old has started just 29 Premier League matches over the past two seasons and the arrival of Thomas Tuchel has pushed him to the periphery of the first team almost completely.

Tuchel’s system doesn’t use traditional style wingers like Ziyech and as a result, the flanksman has had trouble nailing down a position in the German’s XI.

United are in dire need of bodies in the final third, and though Ziyech comes with a glowing reference from ten Hag and a potentially light £8m fee, there are those within the club’s recruitment department that would prefer to veto the move.

So far this summer, ten Hag has leaned heavily on his own book of contacts to get new players through the door at Old Trafford, though it looks like he is being opposed on this particularly recommendation.

FW rumour rating: 1/5

Clubs battle it out to sign Bailly

West Ham are one of several clubs are duking it out for the signature of Eric Bailly, according to popular fansite, West Ham Zone.

The Ivorian is way down the pecking order at United behind Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane and summer signing Lisandro Martinez, and a move away from Old Trafford before September 1st has been muted.

Jose Mourinho’s Roma were believed to be leading the race to sign Bailly, though Spanish outfit Sevilla were also thought to be in the running to bring the 28-year-old to La Liga, albeit on loan.

West Ham meanwhile, are thought to be interested in doing a permanent deal for Bailly for a fee in the region of £8m – something that would probably have greater appeal to the selling club, who are keen to get the defender off their books.

Bailly has endured an injury-hit time at United since his arrival from Villarreal in 2016 and he has only completed more than 20 Premier League appearances once in six years during his spell in Manchester.

FW rumour rating: 2/5

Manchester United

Alex Telles set for Old Trafford exit?

Twitter transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Alex Telles could be sold by Manchester United before the end of the summer transfer window.

The Brazilian left-back has been pushed down the pecking order at United following the arrival of energetic defender Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord and a switch to a club that could offer a more prominent first-team role could be on the cards.

Telles has performed poorly for the Red Devils since moving to England from Porto two years ago and his former employers are one of the clubs listed as potential destinations for the 29-year-old.

Luke Shaw is considered United’s first pick on the left flank in defence and with Malacia now considered his understudy, a fresh start elsewhere for Telles could suit all parties.

Seville have also been linked with a move for the set-piece specialist, though his hefty wages could be tough for suitors to pay.

Telles was handed a bumper contract when he signed for United and like many of his counterparts at the club, his swollen wage packet makes it difficult to find buyers for his services.

It seems as though United are definitely trying to get Telles off their books, though they might have to cover a percentage of his salary to facilitate a move.

FW rumour rating: 4/5

United weighing up move for Benjamin Sesko

The Express are one of several outlets linking Man Utd with a swoop for highly-rated RB Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko this week.

Sesko turned heads earlier this summer with a match-winning goal against Liverpool in a pre-season friendly and the 6’4” centre-forward could be the next superstar to roll off Red Bulls’ famed production line.

The 19-year-old, who is already a full Slovenian international, has only just established himself on the senior club football scene, though he is already thought to be on the radar of a number of big hitting clubs, including Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and of course, Manchester United.

New United manager Erik ten Hag is on the lookout for attacking reinforcements ahead of his team’s first Premier League fixture of the season against Brighton next Sunday and Sesko certainly fits the bills.

With Edinson Cavani gone, Mason Greenwood unavailable and Cristiano Ronaldo’s future uncertain, United are worryingly light on numbers in the final third and a single injury could scupper their chances of progress this season.

FW rumour rating: 3/5

Sasa Kalajdzic also on United’s list?

Alongside Sesko, the Daily Mail have claimed that United are also pursuing a move for Stuttgart starlet Sasa Kalajdzic, who is valued at around £17m.

Kalajdzic, who is 6ft 7ins tall, joined Stuttgart from Admira Wacker in 2019 and he has notched 24 times in 57 appearances since.

The Austrian international, who turned 25 earlier in the summer, is also believed to be on Bayern Munich’s list of potential Robert Lewandowski replacements, though their interest has yet to solidify.

At £17m, Kalajdzic would certainly represent a better value option to the £55m-rated Benjamin Sesko and with more top-level experience in his locker, signing the Stuttgart man could prove a savvier acquisition.

Kalajdzic did have a number of injury issues last term however, and started just 13 times in the Bundesliga for Stuttgart in 2021/22.

FW rumour rating: 2/5

France full-back Benjamin Pavard

United “offered” the chance to sign Pavard

Manchester United had been linked with Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard earlier this summer before cooling their interest, though German outlet Sport1 claim that the English side have been offered another chance to sign the World Cup winner.

Pavard’s future at the Bavarians looks cloudy following the signing of Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus and Bayern’s central defensive options now look overcrowded.

Pavard had played at right back for Bayern, though his desire to be deployed more centrally could limit his chances with the German champions in 2021/22.

Unfortunately for Pavard, United are well-stocked at centre-half with Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and new recruit Lisandro Martinez at the club, while Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones are all still on United’s books too.

were linked with Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard earlier in the summer transfer window as they look to bolster their defensive ranks even further, but it has now been revealed that the Bundesliga champions have offered the Frenchman to the Red Devils.

This rumour doesn’t look like it has legs in our opinion and Pavard will likely end up elsewhere.

De Jong transfer breakthrough?

The Mirror has provided an interesting update on the Frenkie de Jong situation, claiming that a new financial package that would satisfy all parties is about to be put on the table.

United agreed an initial transfer fee of around £56m with Barcelona earlier in the summer, though disagreements between the La Liga side and their Dutch midfielder over deferred wage payments put the brakes on the deal going through.

However, The Mirror (via DarioSport in Spain) are now indicating that United are prepared to absorb the £17m owed to De Jong by Barcelona in an attempt to push the protracted deal to completion.

Barcelona have been splashing the cash this summer on a number of new recruits, though they have yet to fill their salary obligations to de Jong, who is rumoured to be pushing against a transfer away until the debt is settled.

United have had to play the long-game with De Jong and the Dutchman’s on again, off again transfer has become one of the most arduous plotlines of the summer window.

De Jong worked under Erik ten Hag at Ajax during a spell of incredible success for the Eredivisie champions and the two could finally be reunited in Manchester if things go smoothly.

However, despite financial issues working themselves out, there are doubts about de Jong’s desire to swap sunny Catalonia with rain-soaked Manchester.

Noises coming from the 25-year-old’s camp still strongly indicate a desire to stay where he is, though Barcelona have been working hard to push him out the Camp Nou exit.

 FW rumour rating: 2/5

Man Utd looking at alternatives to de Jong

Manchester United

The Daily Express are reporting that the Lazio midfielder, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for the past two seasons and now it looks like a deal between the two clubs could be agreed upon. However, with Man Utd leaving the deal so close to the start of the season, Lazio might not be in a position to sell their Serbian midfielder until they can find a suitable replacement.

Milinkovic-Savic, 27, is a powerful box-to-box midfielder capable of helping out in attack as well as defence when called upon. The Serbian midfielder has played 34 times for his county since 2017, scoring 6-goals and has played over 200 league games for Lazio since signing for the club in 2015.

It is yet to be seen as to whether this move for Milinkovic-Savic is genuine or just an attempt from Man Utd to force Barcelona's hand on de Jong. The Spanish club can't afford to miss out on a mega-money deal right now so it would be in their best interests to sell to Man Utd this summer.

FW rumour rating: 3/5

Red Devils keeping tabs on next Haaland

Man Utd are said to be keeping an eye on young Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko, thought to be one of the most exciting teenage strikers in European football. As things stand, we're not convinced that Man Utd are in the market for another striker, especially not one who would need time to adapt to the Premier League and may even need to be loaned out before he is ready to make an impact on the first team.

The Daily Star have reported that Man Utd are considering a £55m bid for the youngster who some believe could be better than Erling Haaland in the future, but the likes of Bayern Munich, Dortmund and Newcastle are also said to be keeping an eye on the 19-year-old.

On the comparisons to Haaland, Sesko had this to say,

“Such comparisons [to Haaland] motivate me and give me energy… They do not represent pressure. I will listen and learn so I can be even better than he is.

Clearly not lacking in confidence but as of yet, Sesko hasn't scored the kind of goals for RB Salzburg that one would hope from a player likened to Erling Haaland, netting just five times in the Austrian Bundesliga last season so the 2022/23 campaign will be a big test for the teenager and maybe if he flourishes he will earn a move to one of Europe's elite teams.

FW rumour rating: 2/5

Another Dutch defender linked with Man U move

Dumfries

Man Utd are being linked with a move for Netherlands and Inter Milan full-back Denzel Dumfries but we're not sure that Calcio Mercato have got this one right.

Dumfries impressed at Euro 2020 and was signed by Inter Milan shortly after where he has continued to shine. The marauding right-back loves to get forward put crosses in and score goals, but why would Inter Milan want to sell him? and do Man Utd need a player in that position?

This link might well come down to the fact that Man Utd have a new Dutch manager who has already brought in one Dutch defender this summer and will continuously be linked with any and all Dutch players. Dumfries is a top full-back and would suit the Premier League but we just don't think he is what Man Utd are looking for right now when they have Dalot and Wan-Bissaka covering that position.

FW rumour rating: 2/5

Is Bailly's time finally up at Old Trafford?

Eric Bailly's dismal time at Old Trafford could be coming to an end this season as Jose Mourinho looks to bring the Ivory Coast international to Roma, according to the Mirror.

Having already had success bringing Smalling to Roma from Old Trafford and seeing the impact Tammy Abraham has made in Serie A, it is not all that surprising to see Mourinho coming back in for another of his former players.

Bailly impressed at Villarreal before joining Man Utd but things just haven't worked out in the Premier League for the centre-back and a move to Roma would suit all parties involved.

FW rumour rating: 4/5

Juve looking to end Martial North West nightmare

Manchester United

The Daily Mirror believe that Juventus are considering a move for Man Utd's French forward Anthony Martial but after impressing during pre-season, ten Hag wants to keep the United failure.

Martial joined Man Utd back in 2015 for an initial £36m with addons that raised the fee up to almost £60m. After a bright start to his Old Trafford career, scoring 11-goals in 31 league games during the 2015/16 season, Martial's form dipped over the next two seasons but he got back into double figures in the 2018/19 season and the 2019/20 campaign was easily his best to date, netting 17 goals in 32 Premier League games. However, the following season he was poor, scoring just four times in 22 games and he only managed match appearances the following season before being loaned out to Sevilla where he also failed to impress.

The French international joined up with his Man Utd teammates for pre-season expecting to be sold on after the new manager, ten Hag, came in but the Dutchman gave Martial a chance to shine and the Frenchman scored three times, impressing the United boss. At the age of just 26, Martial still has plenty to offer and ten Hag might just believe he can get the best out of the Frenchman so Juventus might be barking up the wrong tree.

The Serie A side lost Dybala on a free transfer and are on the lookout for a new striker, perhaps they will consider taking Cristiano Ronaldo back seeing as he is unwanted at Old Trafford.

FW rumour rating: 2/5

United weighing up Toney move?

ivan toney

Brentford star striker Ivan Toney is attracting covetous glances from some of the Premier League’s bigger clubs – and according to the Daily Mirror, Manchester United are believed to be among the forward’s suitors.

United – alongside Newcastle, West Ham and Leeds – are all in the market for more firepower this summer and Tony, who notched 14 times last term, has already shown that the has the pedigree to succeed in the top flight.

The Red Devils’ hunt for a new attacker largely hinges on the future of Cristiano Ronaldo, however. The veteran superstar is pushing for a move away from Old Trafford before the new season starts, with another campaign in the Champions League on his agenda.

Ronaldo hit 18 league goals for United in 2021/22 and his output will need to be placed. At 26, Toney fits the bill and the Bees frontman looks ready to take the next leap in his career.

Toney signed for Brentford in 2020 from Peterborough United and he has repaid his £5m transfer fee in full with 47 goals in 89 appearances for the London-based club.

Brentford are believed to want a fee of at least £40m to part with their star striker, though that might be too meaty a price with United’s coffers not as full as they used to be.

FW rumour rating: 2/5

Ronaldo rules out Sporting return

Want-away striker Cristiano Ronaldo has rubbished claims that he is set for a dramatic return to boyhood club Sporting CP, reports The Sun.

A photo believed to be of Ronaldo’s car parked at Sporting’s ground, Jose Alvalade, was circulated on social media, sparking a flurry of excitement about a possible blockbusting return to his homeland in a sensational loan move.

However, Ronaldo was quick to quash the speculation, commenting “fake” under the photograph on Instagram. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner had been maintaining radio silence while stories about his future and desire to leave Manchester United have been abound, though he chose an interesting time to speak out.

His agent, Jorge Mendes, has been shopping Ronaldo around Europe with no success and every potential buyer from Chelsea to PSG and Real Madrid to Bayern Munich seem to have ruled themselves out of the race to sign him.

Ruben Neves a Frenkie de Jong alternative?

Manchester United

Frenkie de Jong’s will he/will he move to Manchester United has already become one of the summer’s most tiresome transfer sagas, though the Express have suggested that the Red Devils could turn to midfield alternatives before August.

Wolves schemer Ruben Neves has been touted as the next midfielder in line should United eventually miss out on primary target de Jong and the Express have indicated that the Portuguese international is greatly admired at Old Trafford.

25-year-old Neves has been a mainstay in Wanderers’ engine room since moving to the Midlands from Porto in 2017 and the deep-lying playmaker is considered one of the best players in the Premier League in his position.

His current employers have slapped a £60m-£70m price tag on his head, however, which is certain to be a major obstacle for any major deal to overcome.

Neves is rumoured to be keen to seek out pastures new at a bigger club and he will be hoping that United’s pursuit of Frenkie de Jong ends in failure.

FW rumour rating: 3/5

Kyle Walker-Peters on United’s radar?

Signing a new right back is believed to be high on Manchester United’s list of priorities this summer and The Athletic have linked the Red Devils with a swoop for Southampton fullback Kyle Walker-Peters.

With Aaron Wan Bissaka’s future up in the air and alternative option Diogo Dalot not up to scratch, right back is a problem position for United and Walker-Peters, who is a tried and tested Premier League performer, could solve the club’s issues.

Walker-Peters is now a fully-fledged England international and his displays down the Saints’ flank have earned plenty of plaudits. However, Southampton, who have long been a selling club, could be open to selling the 25-year-old for around £40m.

The emergence of Valentino Livramento in the same position at St. Mary’s Stadium means that Southampton wouldn’t be left short should Walker-Peters depart and the ex-Tottenham starlet would jump at the chance to move north to Manchester.

Walker-Peters would undoubtedly be a first-choice pick for United in what is currently a weak area, but with a limited budget, his valuation could be a deal-breaker.

United target Villa prodigy

Carney Chukwuemeka

Manchester United are among the clubs interesting in signing Aston Villa wonderkid Carney Chukwuemeka, according to talkSPORT.

The attacking midfielder has been involved in a lengthy contract stand-off with the Villains and as things stand, the 18-year-old could walk away on a free transfer in the summer of 2023.

That prospect is unthinkable for Aston Villa however, who would prefer to cash in on their academy crown jewel in the current window to avoid losing him for nothing.

Chukwuemeka starred in England’s Under-19 European Championship win, adding to his burgeoning reputation by scoring in the final and being named in UEFA’s Team of the Tournament.

German giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are believed to be vying for Chukwuemeka’s signature and both clubs would be allowed to open a dialogue with the youngster in January.

Manchester United and local rivals City are also thought to be pursuing a move for Chukwuemeka, with both clubs unlikely to be put off by Villa’s £20m price tag this summer.

Chukwuemeka has only amassed 15 senior appearances for Villa, however, he is considered one of the best players in England in his age group and he will be hot property if he decides to move.

Villa manager Steven Gerrard has left Chukwuemeka out of his side’s pre-season tour to Australia due to his contract situation, adding further fuel to the fire.

Speaking on the player, Gerrard said: “Carney’s yet to sign a contract offer that’s been in place for some time now, so I’ve decided that the best thing for him would be to continue his training programme back at Bodymoor.”

Manchester United History and Information

Manchester United FC are a football team that play in the English Premier League, and are one of only six sides to have competed in every season of the competition since it was formed, having been one of the founding member clubs. They were founded in 1878 as Newton Heath LYR FC and did not become Manchester United until 1902. They have played their home games at Old Trafford in Manchester since 1910, with Manchester City and Liverpool considered to be their biggest rivals. United are currently managed by Erik ten Hag. United are one of the most successful clubs in English football with more Premier League wins than anyone else.

Manchester United Football Club is one of the most successful and most popular football clubs in the world. The club was founded in 1878 as Newton Heath LYR Football Club before changing the name to Manchester United in 1902. In 1910, the club moved to Old Trafford stadium and they have been playing in the popular “Theatre of Dreams” ever since.

The Red Devils, which is the nickname of the club, are the most decorated club in English football, with a record of 20 league titles (one more than Liverpool), 12 FA Cups and 5 League Cups. The club has also won 3 European Cup/Champions League titles and one UEFA Europa League title, among other trophies. Additionally, Manchester United was the first club to win the European Cup in 1968, under the management of Matt Busby.

However, the majority of trophies for the club came after the foundation of the Premier League and during 26 years under the guidance of the legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson. In fact, the team has failed to win a domestic title since his retirement in 2013. The current manager of the team is highly-rated former Ajax boss, Erik ten Hag.

Manchester United Transfers

Eric Cantona from Leeds for £1.2m in 1992

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what made Manchester United the force that it was in Premier League, apart from the obvious managerial brilliance of Sir Alex Ferguson. However, many pundits would agree that signing Cantona was the thing that lit the United’s fire. The French forward played five seasons for Red Devils and only failed once to win a title with them.

Cristiano Ronaldo from Sporting for £12m in 2003

Widely regarded as one of the best players in the history of the game, Cristiano Ronaldo was an 18-year old youngster when he was brought to Manchester. Playing mostly as a winger, Ronaldo scored 84 league goals in his six years at the club before being sold to Real Madrid for a record-breaking fee of £80 million.

Peter Schmeichel from Brondby for £625,000 in 1991

A good goalkeeper is the backbone of any team and Schmeichel was a type of keeper that could provide security and leadership to any team. The Danish keeper came to Manchester United for a humble fee, even for 1991 standards, and he remained at the club for 8 years.

Nemanja Vidić from Spartak Moscow for £7m in 2005

Paired with Rio Ferdinand, the Serbian central defender posed an insurmountable shield in front of the goal but many strikers would agree that Vidić was the better defender of the two and, in his peak years, the best defender in the world. Nicknamed Serbian Terminator by the fans, Vidić was with the club for eight years, for some of which he was the captain as well.

Paul Pogba from Juventus for £90m in 2016

Despite coming to the club as a teenager, Paul Pogba is still the most expensive transfer for Manchester United to date. His career at the club was short-lived before he was let go and allowed to sign for Juventus. But after just three seasons in Italy, United paid £90 million to get him back in 2016.
