Following their collapse in the UEFA Champions League playoff round last week, Celtic bounced back to defeat Falkirk in the Premiership on Sunday, a result that was necessary after their performance in Austria three days earlier.
Camilo Duran, who looks the pick of the Celtic signings so far, scored both goals in the win at Celtic Park, and Martin O'Neil will be desperate for his side to continue their perfect start to the league campaign on Wednesday night.
While O'Neil was bitterly disappointed by his side's exit from the Champions League, there may now be an acceptance that the Europa League represents a far more realistic challenge for Celtic this season.
O'Neil is definitely without Alistair Johnston, Jota and Reo Hatate on Wednesday, while Callum McGregor and Kasper Hogh are doubts.
As for Aberdeen, their mixed start to the new season continued at the weekend, with a home defeat to Rangers.
That result means that the Dons have now failed to score in the league since the opening game of the season, a statistic that will surely concern manager Stephen Robinson, who is still learning his trade at this level.
The big positive for Aberdeen so far this season has been their run in the League Cup. They are into the last eight, where they will face Kilmarnock for a place in the semi-finals.
The match against Celtic represents another opportunity for Robinson's men to get one over one of the big boys after coming up short against Rangers at the weekend.
Robinson will be without four players on Wednesday, with Bradley Lyons, Emmanuel Gyamfi, Kristers Tobers and Kusini Yengi all out injured.
