Prediction 1: Werder Bremen vs Bayern Munich: Bayern Munich to win (-1 handicap) @ 11/10 (2.10)
There was a fair bit of scepticism and even criticism flying around in the summer when Bayern Munich opted to bring in Vincent Kompany, who had just been relegated from the Premier League with Burnley, as their new manager but he’s wasted no time in making people eat their words. The Bavarians have started the 2024/25 campaign like a house on fire and we’re expecting that to continue as they travel to face Werder Bremen; we’re betting on Bayern Munich to win even with a -1 handicap applied. Bremen have only won one of their last four matches but this bet isn’t really about them. It’s about Bayern; they’ve won each of their last seven games by at least two clear goals and have racked up a combined scoreline of 31-5 in that period. The last five head to head meetings between these two sides have a combined position of 16-3 in favour of the Bavarians as well.
Prediction 2: Leverkusen vs Wolfsburg: Over 2.5 goals @ 1/2 (1.50)
We now turn to Leverkusen vs Wolfsburg and this game feels destined to feature goals; our take is a fairly conservative one at over 2.5 goals. Wolfsburg have gone north of the 2.5 line in three of their last four games with a total of 13 goals seen in that period whilst Leverkusen have been goal crazy of late with a five game average of 4.0 goals; four of those five matches have cleared the 2.5 cut off.
Prediction 3: St Pauli vs Leipzig: Both teams to score – No @ 6/5 (2.20)
We wrap up our Bundesliga betting tips with St Pauli’s home match against RB Leipzig and we expect at least one side to blank in this game. St Pauli have seen both teams score in just two of their last five matches whilst Leipzig have seen two of their last four games end with a ‘nil’ in the final scoreline. From a head to head perspective, the last three meetings between these teams have all seen at least one side fail to find the net.
Bundesliga 2023-24 Season Recap
When Bayern Munich signed Harry Kane last summer it was supposed to be the signing that put them well and truly back with the best in the Champions League. The Bundesliga title was meant to be a given. It was not. Bayern produced a pretty horrific season by their own lofty standards. Sure, they’re put up a fight in Europe but, domestically, they crashed out of the Pokal to lower league opposition and finished third in the Bundesliga; they’d not finished lower than second since 2010/11.
This season, Stuttgart, who haven’t attracted nearly as many plaudits as they deserve, came second whilst Leverkusen were the story of the season. Xabi Alonso’s men lost only one game in all competitions – notably the Europa League final – as they recorded a league and cup double. With a 17 point lead over Stuttgart – and 18 over Bayern – it’s fair to say the Bavarians have work to do to overhaul that gap next year.
It’s not all been bad for Kane though. On an individual level he has torn Germany up netting a total of 36 goals, which puts him eight ahead of Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy and 12 in front of Leipzig’s Lois Openda where the golden boot is concerned.
With respect of the relegation battle, Darmstadt and Koln ended in the two automatic relegation spots with the former somewhat cut adrift amassing only 17 points. Bochum meanwhile found themselves third from bottom but they rather sensationally overturned a 3-0 first leg deficit in the playoffs to ensure Dusseldorf won’t be a Bundesliga side in 2024/25.
Bundesliga outright predictions
Who will win the Bundesliga title?
Where the Bundesliga title is concerned it’s hard to look beyond one of Leverkusen or Bayern Munich. Bayern surely won’t be as bad as they were in 2023/24, which means they have to be considered a big threat at the summit once again. Leverkusen meanwhile have already made their best signing of the summer with Xabi Alonso committing his future to the club for at least another season. Alonso’s loyalty is likely to see the star players of Leverkusen’s unbeaten side hang around too and therefore they’ll be hard to knock off their perch.
Stuttgart, Dortmund and Leipzig, to name a few, might be annoyed not to be included in our thoughts. In reality though, it would take a monumental effort for any of those to overhaul the aforementioned duo given what they’re likely to take into next season.
- Bayern Munich 1/2 (1.50)
- Bayer Leverkusen 12/5 (3.40)
- Leipzig 10/1 (11.00)
Bundesliga Top Scorer Odds
The Golden Boot market is a pretty easy one to predict right now; you can’t bet against Harry Kane. If Kane is fit, he’ll score a hatful of goals in a Bayern side that will be playing front footed, chance creating football. Should Kane have a spell of not scoring though then Serhou Guirassy, Victor Boniface, Benjamin Sesko and Lois Openda may well all fancy their chances too.
- Harry Kane @ 1/2 (1.50)
- Serhou Guirassy @ 7/1 (8.00)
- Lois Openda @ 15/2 (8.50)
Who faces relegation from Bundesliga?
It feel brutal to look at the relegation picture so early but there are a few standouts who should feat the drop. Bochum needed a playoff to survive this season and, as such, it would be bold to suggest they will be safe from trouble next season. Holstein Kiel and Holstein Kiel and St Pauli meanwhile earned promotion from Bundesliga 2 and will likely have ambitions of purely trying to stay up. The latter of the promoted duo in particular have to be favourites for the drop given they’ve also lost their manager, Fabian Hürzeler, to Brighton this summer. It means new gaffer Alexander Blessin has a big job ahead of him.
