Coming off the back of a 17th-placed finish in the 205-26 campaign, when they failed to win their final six games (1D 5L), it has been an underwhelming start to the new season for Stoke City, who find themselves rock-bottom in the Championship standings.

Having suffered defeat against Swansea City and Southampton in their opening two league games, the Potters were outclassed and outplayed by a clinical Wolverhampton Wanderers side on Saturday when they fell to a 4-1 hammering at the Molineux Stadium.

Sam Gallagher’s second-minute opener gave the visitors a dream start to the tie, but Rodrigo Gomes struck twice in a three-minute spell to put Wolves in front heading into half time before Raul Jimenez and Jordan James hit the target to cap off a dominant team display.

Stoke City have now lost four consecutive games since claiming a 2-0 win over Oldham Athletic in the EFL Cup opening round on August 8, a run which saw their cup journey come to an end courtesy of a penalty-shootout defeat against Hull City in the second round on August 25.

Having lost their opening three league matches for the first time since the 2010-11 campaign, Mark Robins’s men will be aiming to stop the rot on Tuesday, but next up is the challenge of an opposing side who are unbeaten in nine of their last 10 meetings, claiming six wins and three draws since November 2020.

Coming off the back of a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Cardiff City in the EFL Cup second round on August 25, Norwich City finally got off the mark in the new Championship season at the weekend when they cruised to a 4-1 victory over 10-man Burnley at Carrow Road.

In a game where Josh Laurent received his marching orders, Mohamed Toure and new signing Andre Brooks put on a show in front of the home supporters, netting two goals each to fire the Canaries to a commanding victory.

This was a timely result for Philippe Clement’s side, who had suffered consecutive defeats in their opening two games, losing 2-1 at home to West Bromwich Albion on the opening weekend, one week before suffering a 3-0 hammering against Millwall at the Den on August 22.

Now closing in on three straight wins for the first time since February, Norwich City will be backing themselves to get the job done at the bet365 Stadium, where they are unbeaten in their last six visits (2W 4D) since a 3-1 defeat in January 2016.

Whispers’ prediction: Stoke City 1-2 Norwich City

Norwich City have upped the ante in recent weeks and will be backing themselves to keep the ball rolling against an out-of-sorts Stoke City side who have stumbled into the new campaign.

At 6/5 (2.20), the bookmakers have Norwich as favourites to get the job done, and with just one defeat in their last 10 games against Stoke, we are siding with the bookies here.

Our second pick of the game is BTTS – Yes at 33/50 (1.66), with Norwich failing to keep a clean sheet in their last five games, while over 2.5 goals at 4/5 (1.80) is another tempting option.

Norwich to win + BTTS – Yes is currently priced at 333/100 (4.33), which stands as the value bet for us here, while the correct score market has a correct score of 1-2 at 8/1 (9.00).
