Liverpool have reportedly identified Vitinha as a transfer target for the January window and are exploring potential reinforcements to strengthen the midfield.

2025 was a year Vitinha will not forget. After a key role in Paris Saint-Germain‘s treble-winning season, he finished third in the recent Ballon d'Or voting.

The 25-year-old player has impressed many observers including Liverpool's scouting department, who have identified the former Wolves player as one of the most technically gifted midfielders in Europe. According to Caught Offside, the Reds are keeping Vitinha under close watch ahead of the January transfer deadline. The Portuguese midfielder's ability to dictate the tempo of play and his skill in carrying the ball reportedly make him a very attractive option for manager Arne Slot's system.

Vitinha's price is high

After an unsatisfactory start to the 2025-26 season, Vitinha would undoubtedly bring much-needed composure to Liverpool's midfield. However, his transfer would be extremely difficult.

PSG are reluctant to part with the Portugal international, but a stunning offer from Liverpool of around €130m (£115m) could prompt the reigning Ligue 1 champions to negotiate, the aforementioned report states. Other clubs including Arsenal and Juventus are also expected to be monitoring the situation in Paris. However, Liverpool are expected to enter negotiations only if one of their existing midfielders leaves in January.

Vitinha has previously hinted at sympathy for Liverpool

In March, after PSG's penalty shootout victory over the Reds in the Champions League, Vitinha spoke enthusiastically about the atmosphere at Anfield and called Liverpool a great team. “It is not easy to play on this pitch, to play in this stadium, with such an atmosphere supporting their team,” he said after the final whistle. “They are truly a great team and the truth is that we breathed a huge sigh of relief after the match, we are happy.”

At Anfield, the midfielder produced a dazzling performance. He completed 103 of 111 passes and won six ground duels. Thierry Henry was full of praise for the former Porto player. “This guy, Vitinha, plays a different sport than the rest of the players. You know, when you can control the tempo and rhythm of the game, that has to count,” he said on TNT Sports. “People always talk about players who can dribble and win matches, but Vitinha, the way he controls play and defends, it is magnificent.”
