Following the collapse of the transfer of Ederson to Man Utd, the Red Devils are back in the market for at least one more central midfielder.
According to a report in Globo, United have made contact with Wolves about a deal for Joao Gomes. The 25-year-old, who failed to make the Brazil World Cup squad this summer, could be available for a discounted fee following Wolves' relegation to the Championship.
The Brazilian outlet are also reporting that Liverpool are in the race for Gomes, too. Both clubs are keen to secure a deal for Gomes after his proposed move to Atletico Madrid collapsed.
With both Liverpool and Man Utd in the market for midfielders, this could turn into a bidding war between English football's two biggest clubs.

Chelsea are said to be preparing a bid for Folarin Balgoun, with the Blues reportedly impressed by the American's performances at the World Cup.
Balogun currently plays for AS Monaco in Ligue 1, but the French club could be forced to sell the striker due to financial issues. According to Ekrem Konur, Monaco have already lined up a replacement for Balogun, as they look to raise funds.
Chelsea are in the market for a new striker due to concerns about Liam Delap's ability to perform at the highest level, with Xabi Alonso keen on bringing in more support for Joao Pedro.
Balogun had an excellent World Cup for the USA, scoring three goals in four appearances as they reached the round of 16 at their home tournament.
