Arsenal are aiming to maintain their perfect start to the season when they travel to Portman Road to face Ipswich Town in the Carabao Cup third round on Tuesday night.

The Gunners won their sixth game in all competitions by beating Sunderland 2-0 at the Stadium of Light in the Premier League last time out, while Ipswich were also victorious 3-2 against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Ipswich vs. Arsenal: What’s the story?

After reaching the Carabao Cup final last season before losing 2-0 to Manchester City at Wembley Stadium, Arsenal will be looking to go one better this time around.

The Gunners won their first Premier League title in 22 years in the 2025-26 season, showcasing their might in English football, and they will undoubtedly be one of the favourites to lift the trophy come next year.

Their first opponents in this season's competition are Ipswich, a fellow top-flight side who earned promotion from the Championship in 2025-26.

The Tractor Boys have already beaten Leicester City to get to this stage of the competition, but Arsenal are the toughest team they could have drawn from the third round.

Gary O'Neil's side will at least take some comfort from playing in front of their home fans though, and they will hope to cause an upset that has been seen so many times before in this competition.

Mikel Arteta's team will be focused on the job at hand though, and they will be favourites to progress to the fourth round despite playing away from home.

With further Premier League commitments this weekend, both teams could choose to rotate their starting line-ups and give other squad players a runout.

If this happens, it would benefit Arsenal the most, given the superior strength of their squad and the players they could call upon.
