France vs. Sweden: How did the two teams qualify?
As expected, France sailed through the group stage to reach the last 32 of the World Cup, taking nine points from nine on offer in games against Iraq, Senegal and Norway in Group I.
Les Bleus were one of just three teams to win all of their group-stage games, alongside Argentina and Mexico, while their total of 10 goals was the joint-highest alongside Germany and the Netherlands.
Didier Deschamps's side were given a slight scare against Senegal first up, but the 2018 champions eventually strode to a 3-1 win, before a 3-0 success over Iraq and 4-1 thumping of a second-string Norway team to wrap up first place.
Meanwhile, Sweden – who made history as the first team to reach a World Cup despite finishing bottom of their qualification group without a single victory – posted four points in Group F to finish as one of the best third-placed teams, behind the Netherlands and Japan.
Graham Potter's men thumped lowly Tunisia 5-1 first up, before being subjected to an identical hammering by the Netherlands and holding Japan to a 1-1 draw in their third and final group game.
Sweden are now doing battle with France for the 24th time in senior men's football, but the last two meetings were both won by Les Bleus in the 2020-21 Nations League, and the two nations have never clashed in the World Cup Finals before.
