Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (2.5/5): TeamTALK hazy on sources
One of Tottenham's targets in their search for defensive cover in January is Bournemouth's Ukrainian international Ilya Zabarnyi.
This comes from teamtalk.com, who keep their source information a secret, though they claim Man Utd and Chelsea also want him, while Man City were reportedly targeting him in November.
Value (3/5): Plenty of interest driving price up
Bournemouth have not named their price for the 22-year-old who has been a rock at the back for Andoni Iraola's side, playing every minute in the league this season.
His market value has risen again this month, to £31.5 million. Given that he is under contract until 2029, and has so many of the supposed “big six” chasing him, Bournemouth could be looking at offers around double that.
Suitability (4.5/5): Proven quality
The Cherries have excelled in so many areas this campaign, including in defence where Zabarnyi has formed an impressive partnership with teenager Dean Huijsen.
His experience at the top level will hold him in good stead at Spurs, who also play a back four and have become used to dealing with unlikely centre-back pairings.
Upgrade? (3.5/5): Walks into the team short-term
Spurs are currently down to just one fit central defender, thus Zabarnyi would have first dibs at cementing himself as part of Ange Postecoglou's starting XI.
That will be more of a challenge once Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies all return to fitness. However, with Romero reported to be leaving, Zabarnyi could well become a regular starter nonetheless.
Logic (2.5/5): Not in any rush
Tottenham can offer Zabarnyi better wages and a bigger crowd to play in front of, but right now he should be in no rush to leave Bournemouth in January, as this season is shaping up to be their best chance of qualifying for Europe for the very first time.
Whisper+ verdict: 16/25
Zabarnyi is unlikely to be interested in being Spurs' saviour, when he has so many other suitors and is enjoying a great season. Lots to like for Spurs, but they will likely find their answers elsewhere, with other candidates in the pipeline.
