Manchester United transfer targets summer 2024: Branthwaite to Old Trafford?

In this article, we take a look at the reported Manchester United transfer targets for this summer, after manager Erik ten Hag survived the managerial chop despite United finishing eighth in the Premier League.

A negative goal difference added an extra degree of indignity to what was the club's lowest-ever PL finish, but an FA Cup win over bitter rivals Manchester City ultimately saved the campaign – and perhaps Ten Hag's job. Nonetheless, there is still plenty of work to do, and consequently, United are likely going to be very busy in this window.

Hot Rumours

According to reports, Manuel Ugarte is United's next big summer transfer target, and the PSG central midfielder has already agreed on personal terms with the club. However, the fee currently being demanded is a little expensive at around £60m. Reports are also claiming that United could look to a cut-price deal for Adrien Rabiot, who is a free agent after his contract at Juventus expired this summer.

Alex Remiro – Real Sociedad

Perhaps surprisingly given that they signed Andre Onana from Inter Milan last summer, United have been linked with another goalkeeper in Alex Remiro. He has impressed at Real Sociedad in La Liga, and has a £60m release clause.

Onana was especially shaky in the UEFA Champions League group stages, but did grow in stature as the season progressed. However, there are still question marks over whether he should be the long-term number one at Old Trafford.

Ferdi Kadlioglu – Fenerbahce

Turkish news outlets are reporting that the Red Devils are set for talks with the representatives of Fenerbahce full-back Ferdi Kadioglu over a potential move. The deal would be worth between £30-35m.

Marc Guehi – Crystal Palace

According to TEAMtalk, United are willing to offer Aaron Wan-Bissaka in a player-plus-cash deal to sign Marc Guehi. The Crystal Palace centre-half started for England at Euro 2024.

Matthijs de Ligt – Bayern Munich

According to Sky in Germany, United have held initial talks with Bayern Munich over the potential signing of central defender Matthijs de Ligt. The Netherlands international, who was in the Dutch Euro 2024 squad, is keen to move to Old Trafford.

Bayern value him at £42.4m plus add-ons, and Ten Hag worked with him before at Ajax.

Jean-Clair Todibo – Nice

According to transfer expert Graeme Bailey, United have not given up on the signing of centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo from OGC Nice. There are reportedly legalities and arguments going on behind the scenes.

Aaron Anselmino – Boca Juniors

According to Argentinian newspaper Ole, United could be on the verge of beating Chelsea to the signing of Aaron Anselmino. The 19-year-old Boca Juniors defender has a release clause of $25m (£20m).

Trevoh Chalobah – Chelsea

United could be weighing up a bid for Trevoh Chalobah, who Chelsea value at £25m. He represents pure profit for the Blues, who may be pressured to sell to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

The Red Devils are looking for a central defender under the age of 25, part of their new transfer policy under Ineos ownership.

Gleison Bremer – Juventus

According to reports in Italy, United representatives have been in the stands a number of times to watch Gleison Bremer play for Juventus, and have been pondering a move for the central defender this summer. However, their potential bid is thought to be under Juve's £60m asking price.

Jarrad Branthwaite – Everton

Various reports have linked Jarrad Branthwaite with a potential move to United this summer, and the Everton centre-back is certainly on their list of targets. He has been scouted by the Red Devils, but they are put off by his £70m price tag, and have only offered up to £50m so far.

Joao Neves – Benfica

Arsenal could reportedly be set to hijack United's potential move for Joao Neves. The young Benfica central midfielder is seen as an ideal replacement for Casemiro, who could leave Old Trafford this summer.

United are expected to make an official offer for Neves, but it is not clear how much they would be willing to bid.

Xavi Simons – PSG

According to French news outlet L'Equipe, United could be involved in a potential bidding war to sign Xavi Simons. Arsenal, Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also thought to be battling it out for his signature.

The attacking midfielder impressed on loan at RB Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain last season, and the spotlight was on him at Euro 2024 as he starred for the Netherlands. However, PSG are reluctant to sell him before January 2025.

Brian Brobbey – Ajax

Ajax striker Brian Brobbey has reportedly teased a potential move to United this summer. He has worked with Ten Hag before, and has previously been touted for a possible switch to Old Trafford.

Ollie Watkins – Aston Villa

The Aston Villa striker could be available for around £70m, but that price could well increase after impressing for England at Euro 2024. Watkins' boyhood club Arsenal are said to be United's main rivals for his signature.
