Scott McTominay has reportedly approached his manager Antonio Conte to bring another former Manchester United teammate into the squad.
The player is not particularly favoured by Ruben Amorim, who nevertheless speaks about him as part of his future plans. Whilst the England international's playing time is declining, frustration is growing and chances associated with participating in the 2026 World Cup are significantly reduced.
Scott McTominay wishes to bring former teammate
Napoli star Scott McTominay is one of the main players who benefited from leaving Manchester United. The Scottish midfielder helped Napoli to their historic fourth Serie A title and has indelibly etched himself into the hearts of the Italian champions' fans. Since his arrival, he has scored 12 goals and was even voted player of the year by the fans. For his achievement, he also earned a place in the top 20 at the 2025 Ballon d'Or awards.
In the pre-season summer transfer window, McTominay was joined by two more players from Manchester – former teammate Rasmus Hojlund and Belgian star from rival Manchester City, Kevin De Bruyne.

Now the Scottish darling of Neapolitan fans is asking Antonio Conte to bring in Kobbie Mainoo, who does not play regularly under Ruben Amorim. The Sun comments on its source with these words:
“Scott has been to Conte and recommended Kobbie to him. He told him about his strengths and also what an excellent player he is.”
“He knows everything about him and he would be an ideal signing for the club, whether from a short-term or long-term perspective. He would fit in at the club, he would be a new catalyst.”
Ruben Amorim: Kobbie Mainoo has potential
Kobbie Mainoo is still waiting in vain for his chance in the starting eleven. His absence from the team obviously has a negative impact on his selection for the England national football team.
“I believe in Kobbie Mainoo's abilities. Some think it is over for him, but he has enormous potential. He can improve,” comments Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, continuing:
“Kobbie could play as a number six, but sometimes he passes and leaves, and that is not the role of a number six. I think he needs to work at a higher tempo, better understand the position and be able to recognise when to play slower and when faster.”
With the end of the year approaching, the January transfer window is drawing near. The fewer chances Mainoo gets, the more likely his departure becomes. The 2026 World Cup is approaching at the speed of light and it is in the interest of both the player and manager Thomas Tuchel that the player plays regularly and delivers consistent performances.
