Xabi Alonso will have left disappointed by the news that his former player, Granit Xhaka, has rejected a move to Chelsea this summer in favour of leading Sunderland into Europe.
However, there is no time for Chelsea to feel sorry for themselves, and they have reportedly already moved on to two new targets as they look to improve their options in the middle of the park.
SPORT are reporting that Alonso now wants the club to target Aurelien Tchouameni, who is also the subject of interest from Manchester United. Alonso is also keen on Arda Guler, but this deal is only likely to materialise if Enzo Fernandez departs Stamford Bridge.
Tchouameni is looking increasingly likely to leave Real Madrid this summer, and movement is expected once his World Cup is over.

Bournemouth have reportedly informed all interested parties that Alex Scott is not for sale at any price this summer, in a hammer blow to several Premier League clubs.
According to TalkSPORT, Arsenal, Man Utd and Man City are all interested in signing the 22-year-old this summer, but all three have been told that he will not be leaving the Vitality Stadium this summer.
The Cherries are also said to be pushing Scott to sign a new deal on the South Coast this summer, but it is unclear at this stage whether he will push for a move instead.
If Scott does remain at Bournemouth, it will be the third midfield target that Man Utd have missed out on, following Elliot Anderson's move to Man City and Mateus Fernandes' move to Tottenham.

Napoli are reportedly looking to sign Alejandro Garnacho this summer, with the Italian side holding a long-term interest in the former Manchester United man.
According to transfer expert Ekrem Konur, Chelsea are open to selling the 21-year-old, provided they can recoup the £40m they spent on him last year.
The Argentinian winger had a poor debut campaign at Stamford Bridge, and a fresh start away from the Premier League could be just what the player needs as he looks to rebuild his career.
Konur has also reported that River Plate are also keeping on Garnacho ahead of a possible move.
