Liverpool experienced a record-breaking summer transfer window, securing striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle for £125m, making him the most expensive player in the history of British football. On the same day, the Reds were also close to signing Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi for £35m, but the deal was blocked at the last minute by Palace following the medical.
Record spending and strategic sales
Liverpool's summer spending exceeded an astonishing £300m. It almost seems as though the Anfield board has struck a diamond mine. In addition to Isak, head coach Arne Slot also welcomed Florian Wirtz for £105m, along with Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Hugo Ekitike and Giovanni Leoni.
Another major signing could have joined the squad, but Liverpool rejected an offer from AC Milan on deadline day.

Surprise offer from AC Milan
According to the Daily Mail, the Italian side proposed a swap deal involving Rafael Leao and Federico Chiesa. However, Liverpool turned down the offer and decided to keep hold of the Italy international. Instead, they focused on finalising the transfer of Marc Guehi, although the move ultimately fell through, as previously mentioned.
Liverpool's new signings appear to be paying off so far. The Reds have won their first three Premier League matches, including a tough clash against Arsenal, decided by a superb direct free kick from Dominik Szoboszlai. Their only defeat of the season so far came in the Community Shield final against Crystal Palace in early August. Next up, Liverpool face Burnley away in the fourth round of the Premier League, with the Clarets currently on three points in the table.
