Liverpool have endured a deeply difficult and draining season in the wake of their title triumph. The Reds currently sit fifth in the Premier League and recently suffered a bruising Champions League exit, going out 4-0 on aggregate to Paris Saint-Germain.
Pressure on head coach Arne Slot has intensified sharply, not only over results but also over the manner of performances. The club is now understood to be bracing for a major overhaul this summer, one that looks set to extend to some of the squad's biggest names.
Unexpected midfield exits
Slot himself, in the immediate aftermath of the PSG defeat, cited last summer's radical squad restructure as one of the root causes of the current malaise. The Reds spent over £300m on new signings including Florian Wirtz and club-record purchase Alexander Isak, but that process also meant the departure of several proven contributors.
Luis Diaz has since flourished at Bayern Munich, helping them to the Champions League semi-finals, while Jarell Quansah has impressed at Bayer Leverkusen and is putting himself in contention for Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad.

The summer exodus looks set t continue. Journalist Alan Nixon has reported that Curtis Jones will definitely leave the club. The midfielder came close to joining Inter Milan on a permanent loan in January before the move collapsed at the last minute.
More surprising is the expected departure of Alexis Mac Allister. The Argentine World Cup winner arrived from Brighton in the summer of 2023 as one of Jurgen Klopp's final signings and was a key figure in Liverpool's title-winning campaign but his form this season has dropped off sharply.
Farewells and a contract stand-off
Supporters must also prepare themselves for further painful departures. Mohamed Salah has confirmed he will leave after nine years, while uncertainty persists over goalkeeper Alisson, whose season has again been ravaged by injury. Andy Robertson's exit is certain — his contract expires in June and the experienced full-back could yet join Tottenham as a free agent.
The situation of key centre-back Ibrahima Konate is also unresolved. The France international has yet to sign a new deal and talks have stalled. ‘Ibrahima Konate will be out of contract this summer and my latest information is that his situation is at an impasse,' confirmed respected journalist David Ornstein on NBC Sports. Although Liverpool have Jeremy Jacquet lined up as cover, any Konate departure would almost certainly require the club to accelerate their search for another quality centre-back.
