Authenticity (3/5): Slot admires the Spaniard
Liverpool are interested in signing Spain international left-back Miguel Gutierrez from Girona, according to The Liverpool Echo.
The local media outlet claim the Reds and other Premier League sides, including Man Utd, have been interested in Gutierrez for some time, and manager Arne Slot spoke openly about how Girona utilise the full-back ahead of the two teams' fixture in the UEFA Champions League.
Value (3/5): Price steadily rising
After a handful of first-team appearances for Real Madrid, Gutierrez moved to Girona for just £3.3 million in 2022, before playing a key role last season as the Catalan side finished third.
That has seen his market value rise to £20.6 million, and though no price tag has been mentioned, Girona will likely want more for one of their prized assets, who is under contract until summer 2027.
Suitability (4/5): A modern full-back
Operating in a back four, Gutierrez is every bit the modern full-back, able to get forward – as proven by five goal involvements already this season – and ability to invert, which was mentioned by Slot in his press conference.
He has no club experience outside Spain, but looks like a Premier League player in the making.
Upgrade? (3.5/5): A challenger to Robertson
Liverpool have been linked with a handful of left-backs as they look for a long-term replacement for Andy Robertson, while Kostas Tsimikas looks set to remain no more than a back-up.
At 23 years old, Gutierrez certainly has long-term potential, and would look capable of challenging the Scotsman for the starting berth already, if Robertson's leadership qualities were not part of the equation.
Logic (4/5): Ticks the right boxes
A reasonable price for a player in a position in which they want to strengthen before it becomes a problem, Gutierrez ticks a lot of boxes for Liverpool.
Likewise, Liverpool does for Gutierrez, having got a taste of both first-team football at one of the world's top clubs at Real Madrid and Champions League experience at Girona, it would make sense for him to set his sights on a club that offers both on a regular basis.
Whisper+ verdict: 17.5/25
The local paper might be reading too much into Slot's words, but taking the Reds' and Gutierrez's situations into account, it would not be surprising to see a formal bid heading Girona's way soon.
