What is the Golden Glove trophy?

During a tournament, excellent goalkeepers can challenge for the Golden Glove trophy. It's an award that's based on individual performances although there is a bigger chance of winning if your nation goes far in the tournament. The best goalkeepers have been recognized since the first World Cup in 1930. However, they didn't have an official award until USA 1994.

Brazil is considered the top favourite to win the world cup in Qatar. Based on that, all Golden Glove predictions suggest that Brazil's number one, Alisson Becker is the favourite for the Golden Glove award. All bookmakers agree with this statement which is why they have Alisson as the number one candidate for the trophy.

Next in line, we have Thibaut Courtois who already has one of these trophies in his cabinet, while bookmakers put Hugo Lloris, Jordan Pickford and Manuel Neuer sit just behind the Frenchman.

Our pick: Yassine Bounou

Yassine Bounou and Emiliano Martinez are the big favorites to win the most prestigious goalkeeper award in football. Both of them had a terrific World Cup and were heroes for their countries in penalty shootouts.

Yassine Bounou saved a few penalties against Spain in a game for the ages that send Morocco to the quarter-finals vs Portugal. Yassine Bounou first conceded a goal versus Canada but it was a misfortunate Nayef Aguerd own goal.

The first goal that this amazing keeper allowed was a sneaky Theo Hernandez goal in the 5th minute of the game against France a couple of days ago. He didn’t have many options in the second goal as well as Randal Kolo Muani received a wonderful pass and all he had to do is finish it off.

The 31-year-old Sevilla goalkeeper recorded four clean sheets and with so many saves this year, it’s no wonder why he’s considered the favorite to win the Golden Glove.

Main rival: Emiliano Martinez

The differences between Emiliano Martinez and Yassine Bounou are too few. We feel sorry about that as both of them deserve to get the Golden Glove this year. Emiliano Martinez is perhaps in a pole position to do so as he’s the one who has a chance to win the World Cup.

And whichever country wins the World Cup usually gets the spoils. Should Argentina defeat France on Sunday, Lionel Messi will most likely win the Golden Ball and top goal-scorer award while Emiliano Martinez will be left with the Golden Glove.

However, he has to bring his A-game for the final. No one’s going to gift him this award as this is the most important match of all and Lionel Scaloni is going to need his star goalkeeper at his lethal best if Argentina are to get a good result over France on the 18th of December.

Dark horse: Hugo Lloris

Hugo Lloris is definitely not the bookies’ favorite to put his hands on the Golden Glove this year. Nevertheless, he stands a good chance to win this prestigious individual award.

Emiliano Martinez and Yassine Bounou are the top dogs in the World Cup this year and they’ll do their best to grab the trophy. However, Hugo Lloris has an outstanding opportunity. A chance that Emiliano Martinez and Yassine Bounou don’t have.

Hugo Lloris has the extremely difficult task of nullifying Lionel Messi. The best player in the World has been sensational this year for Argentina and he is bagging goals left and right. Whenever he doesn’t score, he assists. If Hugo Lloris shows his catlike reflexes and scores a clean sheet, he just might be the next Golden Glove winner.
