Euro 2024 Group F Predictions: Ronaldo’s last dance to be memorable

Seeking a second Euro triumph in three attempts, Portugal are obvious favourites to top Euro 2024 Group F. Turkey, Georgia and the Czech Republic make up those hoping to follow them into the expected Round of 16 lineup.

Living proof that age is just a number, Portugal remain captained by a 39-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo. Realistically though, he may well be featuring in his final international tournament for Portugal, who head into Euro 2024 as one of the favourites to go all the way in Germany and lift the trophy.

Euro 2024 Group F winners prediction & group forecast

Group Winners – Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo is the third-favourite behind Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe to claim the top goalscorer award at Euro 2024. If the former Real Madrid and Man Utd man achieves that achievement, Portugal will probably have gone pretty far in the competition.

Along with Ronaldo, Portugal have the likes of Gonçalo Ramos, Rafael Leão and João Félix to call upon in attack, while Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva provide experience and creativity in the midfield, with Pepe, Rúben Dias, João Cancelo and António Silva making up a strong back four.

Runners Up – Turkey

Turkey are the bookmakers' pick to finish as the runners-up in Group F, and while there are some seriously talented players in their side, there does appear to be a lack of international goals in attack.

Hakan Çalhanoğlu is the team's standout player, and the Inter Milan man will captain his country in Germany. Çalhanoğlu has 84 caps and 18 goals for Turkey and heads to Euro 2024 on the back of an excellent season with Inter, where he scored 15 times in 39 appearances across all competitions.

Turkey's best finish at a European Champions arrived in 2008, when they claimed third spot after narrowly losing 3-2 to Germany in the semi-finals.

Third Place – Czech Republic

A lot will depend on Patrik Schick's performance if the Czechs are to usurp Turkey's position in the expected standings and guarantee progress.

The Bayer Leverkusen striker scored five times at Euro 2020, finishing as joint-top scorer with Cristiano Ronaldo. The Czech Republic made it through to the quarter-finals, where they lost to Denmark.

Tomáš Souček of West Ham will captain the team in Germany. The 29-year-old offers a decent goal threat from midfield, along with Fiorentina's Antonín Barák, who has scored nine goals in 39 appearances for his country.

Eliminated – Georgia

Georgia qualified for their first major international tournament since breaking away from the Soviet Union in the 1990s after defeating Greece on penalties in the playoffs.

While not much is expected of the Georgians, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is one player to watch out for. The Napoli attacker has scored 15 goals in 29 caps, and heads to Euro 2024 on the back of another impressive season with the Partenopei, with his haul of 11 goals in 44 games unjustly overshadowed by the limp natue of Napoli's title defence.

However, there really aren't many others in the Georgian side that play in one of the top five leagues across Europe, and that is why we think reality will bite for Willy Sagnol's side over in Germany.

Group F Winners – Potential Round of 16 opponents

If Portugal does claim the top spot in Group F, it would face the runners-up of Group A, B, or C. Our current projections name Hungary, Italy, and Denmark as the likeliest candidates to fill those spots.

Hungary is the easiest prospect on paper, and the H2H record reflects that. Portugal's 3-0 win at Euro 2020 was the latest addition to their unbeaten 14-game history against the Magyars (W10, D4).
