Maritimo left it late against Gil Vicente in their final outing before the international break on September 19, when they fought back from behind to snatch a 1-1 draw at the Estadio Cidade de Barcelos.

Murilo opened his account for the season in the seventh minute to put Gil Vicente on course for their first win in four matches, but Nigerian midfielder Israel Ayuma netted a dramatic 93rd-minute equaliser to hand the visitors a share of the spoils.

Making their return to the top flight for the first time since going down in 2023, Maritimo kicked off the season with promise, claiming back-to-back victories over Casa Pia and Famalicao, but the Funchal outfit have failed to maintain that early momentum, with just two points from their next five matches highlighting their struggles in the big leagues.

However, head coach Mitchell van der Gaag will hope the comeback against Gil Vicente can inspire a spirited display this weekend against an opposing side they have failed to get the better of in 14 of their last 15 meetings, losing 11 and claiming three draws since January 2016.

Meanwhile, Porto continued their fine run of results during the international break as they secured a 3-1 comeback victory over Spanish outfit Deportivo de A Coruna, with Borja Sainz netting in the 59th minute to cancel out Jonathan Asp Jensen’s fourth-minute opener before Andre Silva scored a brace to turn the game on its head.

This was in keeping with what has been a superb start to their Primeira Liga title defence, as Porto are the only side with a 100% record this season, winning each of their seven games so far to sit five points clear at the top of the league standings.

While Maritimo have shipped 12 goals already, defensive sturdiness has been central to Porto’s flying start, with Francesco Farioli’s men keeping four clean sheets and conceding a league-low three goals, while also netting 18 goals at the opposite end of the pitch.

With a return to the Champions League on the horizon, the Dragoes will head into the weekend looking to maintain momentum and equal their second-best start to a new Primeira Liga campaign set in the 2007-08 term, when they won each of their opening eight games.

Porto’s only defeat this season came in their Champions League curtain-raiser on September 8, when they were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City at the Estadio do Dragao courtesy of a second-half brace from Erling Haaland.

Whispers’ prediction: Maritimo 1-3 Porto

At 27/100 (1.27), Porto are clear favourites to come away with the win this weekend, and given the gulf in quality and experience between the two sides, we are siding with the bookmakers here.

With Maritimo trailing in four of their most recent five matches, HT/FT – Porto/Porto at 9/10 (1.90) is another favourable option, while over 2.5 goals at 3/4 (1.75) is our third pick of the game.

Porto have managed just one clean sheet in their last five games against Maritimo, and Porto to win + BTTS – Yes at 12/5 (3.40) is the high-value bet for us, while a correct score of 1-3 at 11/1 (12.00) is our outside pick.

📈 Maritimo vs Porto – Whispers' Tips

> Over 2.5 goals at 3/4 (1.75) | Likelihood: Possible

> HT/FT – 2/2 (Porto/Porto) at 9/10 (1.90) | Likelihood: Possible
