High-flying Benfica continued their blistering run of form on Wednesday when they made light work of Moreirense to secure a 4-0 victory when the two sides met at the Parque de Jogos Comendador Joaquim de Almeida Freitas.
Vangelis Pavlidis continued his red-hot scoring form when he converted his penalty on the stroke of half time to put the visitors in front heading into the break before Andreas Schjelderup, Gianluca Prestianni and Fredrik Aursnes netted second-half goals to cap off a dominant team display.
Now riding a six-game winning streak across all competitions — their longest run of consecutive victories since October 2024 — Benfica head into the weekend in superb form, kicking off their hot streak with a 7-0 hammering of Casa Pia on August 17 before edging Danish outfit AGF 6-2 on aggregate in the Europa League qualifying playoff.
Having kicked off the season with a somewhat disappointing 2-2 stalemate against Academico Viseu on August 9, victories over Casa Pia, Estoril Praia, Maritimo and Moreirense in their subsequent four games has seen Marco Silva’s men surge into second place in the Primeira Liga standings, level on points with third-placed Sporting CP.
