Bolivia vs. Scotland LIVE: Latest score and updates from international friendly

Hello and welcome to FootballWhispers' live blog of tonight's international friendly between Bolivia and Scotland, taking place at the Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey.

Steve Clarke's men are getting acclimatised to the North American climate ahead of their 2026 World Cup challenge, which sees Scotland take on five-time winners Brazil, 2022 semi-finalists Morocco and minnows Haiti in a fascinating Group C.

Scotland jetted off to the USA after a convincing 4-1 friendly success over Curacao on May 30, but their opponents Bolivia will not be present at the 2026 World Cup Finals, having lost to Iraq in March's inter-confederation playoffs after finishing seventh in CONMEBOL Qualifying.

Bolivia vs. Scotland: What's the story?

Bolivia and Scotland have never met before in senior men's international football, but the South American side's recent record against European teams does not make for pleasant reading, as they have only won one of their last 21 games against UEFA countries – beating Andorra 1-0 in March 2024.

La Verde fell into the World Cup Qualifying playoff safety net after taking 20 points from their 18 CONMEBOL games, which saw them finish eight points adrift of Paraguay in the final automatic qualification spot, and they came from behind to defeat Suriname 2-1 in their inter-confederation semi-final.

However, Bolivia were then defeated by the same scoreline by Iraq to prolong their agonising wait for a first World Cup appearance since 1994, while they have also been knocked out of the last four Copa Americas in the group stage without winning a single game.

Oscar Villegas is the main in charge of La Verde, whose main attacking outlet is Santos midfielder Miguel Terceros, who netted eight of Bolivia's 20 goals in World Cup 2026 Qualifying.

In contrast, Scotland will be present at the next global Finals in North America after their unforgettable triumph over Denmark in the UEFA qualifiers, which propelled the Tartan Army to their first World Cup since the turn of the millennium.

Scotland's preparations for the Mundial have not gone swimmingly, though, as Clarke oversaw 1-0 defeats to both Japan and Ivory Coast in March, but Hampden Park was bouncing when the national team strode past Curacao in their penultimate warm-up fixture.

Lawrence Shankland struck twice in that triumph for Scotland, but failure to keep Curacao out means that Clarke's side have now conceded in seven straight games; not since 2003 have they failed to keep a clean sheet in eight consecutive matches.
