Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (4/5): Reliable source gives credibility
Real Madrid have been struggling with form all over the field, and the 15-time Champions League winners have been on the end of a number of unlucky injuries. One of those players has been Carvajal, who picked up an ACL injury earlier this year and will not be available until the end of the season.
As per Diario AS, Real Madrid are considering signing Tottenham’s in-form right-back Porro in January as they are not happy with Lucas Vazquez, who has been covering at right-back since Carvajal’s injury.
Diario AS are one of the most reliable sources in Spain regarding transfer news, as such, the report can be believed to be accurate.
Value (2/5): €70 million too much for Porro
The report has suggested that Tottenham are aware about Real Madrid’s interest in Porro but have set a price tag of €70 million (£58.3m) for the Spaniard.
This price tag may be too much for Florentino Perez’s team to consider as they are likely to bring in Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold next summer as a free agent. Additionally, Liverpool are said to be open to selling the right-back for €40 million (£33.3m) in January, which is considerably less than Porro’s price.
Suitability (4/5): Porro very similar to Carvajal
Porro is known in the Premier League as a very offensive-minded right-back who can invert into midfield and play there thanks to his ball-playing abilities and press resistance.
This is very similar to Carvajal’s skill set, and Real Madrid needs that temporary presence in midfield when progressing play. However, his defensive abilities are his biggest downfall and may not suit Los Blancos’ defensive necessities.
Upgrade? (4/5): Vazquez not a good enough starter
Vazquez has been operating as a backup right-back for Real Madrid for the last few years, and while he has done well on his part, he is not the quality of right-back that Los Blancos need as they try to compete for all three trophies this season.
While Porro has many issues himself, he is leaps and bounds ahead of Vazquez, with whom age has been catching up for some time.
Logic (2.5/5): Real Madrid should hold out for TAA
While Vazquez has been underperforming, Real Madrid are logically better off holding out for the arrival of Alexander-Arnold, whether it is in January for a transfer fee or as a free agent next summer, assuming he doesn't sign a new Liverpool deal.
Porro, on the other hand, would be highly willing to make the move to Real Madrid as it would aid his career to play for a team that looks to aim to win trophies every season.
Whisper+ final verdict – 17/25
Real Madrid are in dire need of a natural right-back this season and may struggle to win trophies if they remain with Vazquez for the rest of the season. However, they are better off sticking with the Spaniard instead of signing Porro as a deal could put Alexander-Arnold off the idea of moving to the Spanish capital next summer.
