- Real Madrid ready to offer £50m bid for right-back
Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (4/5): Reliable source gives credibility
Real Madrid have been having trouble on the pitch, and the 15-time Champions League champions have suffered several unfortunate injuries. One of those players, Carvajal, will not be available until the conclusion of the season due to an ACL injury he sustained earlier this season.
According to iNews, Real Madrid are not content with Lucas Vazquez, who has been filling in at right-back since Carvajal's injury and are thinking about buying Manchester United right-back Dalot in January.
The information can be regarded as accurate because iNews is well-recognised for its transfer news.
Value (2/5): £50 million bid ready for Dalot
The report has suggested that Manchester United are aware of Real Madrid’s interest in Dalot but have set a price tag of £50 million (€60.2m) for the Spaniard and Real Madrid are said to have that bid ready to sign the Portuguese full-back.
However, if Real Madrid are truly interested in signing Trent Alexander-Arnold in the summer, it does not make much sense to splash that much amount of cash on a stop-gap signing like Dalot.
Suitability (3/5): Dalot very similar to Carvajal
Because of his ball-playing skills and resistance to pressing, Dalot is regarded in the Premier League as an extremely offensive-minded right-back who can also play in midfield.
The Portugal international's skill set is quite similar to Carvajal's, and since Real Madrid lacks midfield control, they require that short-term presence when playing. His greatest weakness, though, is his defensive prowess, which could not be sufficient for Los Blancos' defensive needs.
Upgrade? (4/5): Vazquez not a good enough starter
While Vazquez has performed admirably in his role as Real Madrid's backup right-back over the past few years, Los Blancos need a better right-back as they aim to contend for all three championships this season.
Even if Dalot has a lot of problems of his own, he is well ahead of Vazquez, who has been ageing for a while.
Logic (2/5): Real Madrid should hold out for TAA
Despite Vazquez's poor play, Real Madrid would be better off waiting for Alexander-Arnold to arrive, either in January for a transfer price or as a free agent the following summer, provided he doesn't sign a new contract with Liverpool.
Furthermore, should Alexander-Arnold join Real Madrid next summer, it doesn't make much sense for Dalot since he will have to play second fiddle. Dalot might play a significant role in Ruben Amorim's Manchester United instead.
Whisper+ final verdict – 15/25
While Real Madrid need a right-back desperately at the moment, it does not make too much sense for them to try and go after Dalot for such a high price as it may also put into jeopardy their move for Alexander-Arnold next summer as a free agent.
