Whisper+ analysis

Authenticity (3/5): Reports coming from Spain

Since Pedro Porro made his Premier League debut in January 2023, no defender in the division has tallied more goals and assists than the Tottenham right-back's 19.

Those kinds of numbers do not go unnoticed, even by Real Madrid who, according to sport.es, want to sign him in the next transfer window, possibly ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who they have also been heavily linked with.

Value (3.5/5): Price going up all the time

To bring him to the Bernabeu, Real will likely have to part with much more than his most recent €45 million valuation, made in May, before three consecutive starts for Spain and another three goal involvements in the Premier League, including a goal in Spurs' 4-0 demolition of Man City.

With Porro under contract until 2028, Spurs will have plenty of bargaining time, too, with some reports saying they want £70 million.

Suitability (4.5/5): Ideal for Ancelotti

An old-fashioned full-back at home in a defensive four who loves to bomb forward and play his part in attack, Porro is exactly what Carlo Ancelotti will want for his Real team.

He may have spent most of his senior career in Portugal and England, but he does have 45 La Liga appearances to his name, and is, of course, Spanish born and bred.

Upgrade? (4/5): Can be a quick fix and long-term option

Injury to Dani Carvajal leaves Lucas Vazquez as Real's only senior right-back, so the addition of Porro will be an upgrade to their immediate strength in depth.

But, with both players already the wrong side of 30, 25-year-old Porro could make the position his own for the next few seasons.

Logic? (4.5/5): Porro will want trophies

He won silverware with Sporting CP, but oddly enough he is yet to add anything to his trophy cabinet since arriving at Tottenham. Major honours is something Real Madrid can all but guarantee.

Almost any player breaking into the Spain team will harbour ambitions of playing for one of the country's big two clubs, and have the belief that they can hack it there, too.

Whisper+ verdict: 19.5/25

A low-risk signing on the way up who is a good fit for the team's style and will be useful in the short and long terms – there is no reason for Real Madrid not to put a bid in, and even make Porro their number one right-back target, ahead of Alexander-Arnold.

Spurs will struggle to keep hold of him, but at least they can grind out every penny before eventually letting go.
