Whisper+ analysis

Authenticity (4/5): The Athletic is very reliable

Bayer Leverkusen have set their sights on Liverpool centre-back Jarell Quansah as part of their squad rebuild.

The story comes from the very reliable The Athletic, which underlines any potential deal would be separate from the Florian Wirtz deal.

Value (2.5/5): Significant demand

The highly-rated 22-year-old is valued in excess of £40million by the Reds. Such a significant figure on a relatively inexperienced defender could prove to be risky, but after fetching a record fee for Wirtz, the Bundesliga giants can certainly afford to make such bold decisions.

Suitability (4/5): Dominant presence

Standing at 6'3″, the Englishman has an incredible frame and mobility to outmuscle most attackers. Some work could be done on his composure but he should be comfortable against Bundesliga's best forwards.

Upgrade? (4/5): Tah replacement

Physically, Quansah is not too dissimilar to Jonathan Tah, who has left Leverkusen to join Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga giants are in the process of revamping their backline and the arrival of a solid defender like Quansah should allow Erik ten Hag to effectively build his new defence.

Logic (4/5): Promising opportunity

Despite his immense potential, Quansah has struggled to start regularly under Arne Slot as the Dutchman is spoiled by the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate. As such, it might be good for the youngster to move to the Bundesliga and be a key part of a new project.

Whisper+ verdict: 18.5/25

Quansah makes plenty of sense for Leverkusen but it remains to be seen if they will meet Liverpool's valuation.
