Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (3/5): Pedro keen on Merseyside move
Brighton and Hove Albion forward Joao Pedro is understood to be keen on joining Liverpool this summer, as Arne Slot looks to strengthen his attack. The player is “certainly” a name on Slot’s list of targets.
That is according to Football Insider‘s Mick Brown, who is “well-connected” within the game due to his scouting stints at Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers.
Value (2/5): Tough negotiations
Brighton signed Pedro from Watford for a club-record £30million fee in 2023 and at this point, they have no desire to easily part ways with their talisman. As such, the Brazilian's suitors will have to pay a “massive” fee to have any chance of signing the 23-year-old.
Liverpool, meanwhile, admire Pedro but aren't absolutely sure about him so they are unlikely to meet Brighton's astronomical demands.
Suitability (3/5): Not a prolific forward
Pedro has impressed with his link-up play and has drawn comparisons to fellow countryman Roberto Firmino. However, with just seven goals in 21 Premier League games this season, he has done little so far to prove that he could be a reliable goalscorer at the highest level.
Upgrade? (3.5/5): Attacking depth
If signed, Pedro is unlikely to be a guaranteed starter at Anfield. However, with question marks over Mo Salah and Darwin Nunez's future, it makes sense why Liverpool are interested in the Brighton man, whose arrival could strengthen their attacking depth.
Logic (2/5): Wait for better opportunities
Liverpool are certainly one of the most appealing destinations for any young player but with the report suggesting the club's hierarchy aren't absolutely convinced about Pedro's calibre, it's best for the player to wait for a club that is prepared to show more confidence in his talents.
Whisper+ verdict: 13.5/25
Brighton aren't too keen on selling Pedro and Liverpool don't see him as their priority target. As such, this saga is unlikely to go too far.
