Top-level goalkeepers are increasingly rare on the transfer market. Mike Maignan is undoubtedly one and from next summer, he risks attracting interest from Europe's biggest clubs, including Chelsea and Manchester United.
With the departure of Andre Onana and the failed transfer of Gianluigi Donnarumma, Manchester United eventually settled on Senne Lammens, who has not yet had the joy of celebrating his debut in the Red Devils shirt. The English club is therefore currently placing their trust in Altay Bayindir. However, the Turkish goalkeeper has been in great difficulty since the start of the season.
According to information from The Sun, Manchester United are already planning to recruit another first-choice goalkeeper during the summer transfer window in 2026. However, opportunities are few in this sector and Graeme Bailey has stated that Mike Maignan is in the sights of the Manchester hierarchy. Nevertheless, the Red Devils are aware that this deal will be complicated to conclude because Chelsea are also interested in the French goalkeeper.

Mike Maignan at the heart of a Premier League clash
Out of contract next June with AC Milan, Mike Maignan does not seem willing to extend his contract, although he obtained the captain's armband at the start of the season. Present in Lombardy since 2021, the 30-year-old player may fancy discovering a new league. Faced with the rise of Lucas Chevalier, Mike Maignan could consider joining the Premier League to maintain his number one spot in the national team.
Whilst Manchester United's interest in the France goalkeeper is fairly recent, Chelsea's is older. Even though in recent years the Blues have essentially recruited young players and even though Robert Sanchez has established himself in goal, the Spanish goalkeeper has not won unanimous approval, particularly following his sending-off against United, and Chelsea may want to bring experience with Mike Maignan. It remains to be seen what the choice of the former Paris youth player will be.
