Bryan Mbeumo has made an interesting start since his arrival at Manchester United. In order to compensate for his absence during AFCON, Ruben Amorim has found a solution outside the transfer market.

When it is an AFCON season, it means absences to be expected for clubs. Manchester United will not be spared and will have to do without the services of Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo or even Noussair Mazraoui, who has only just returned from injury. The English club are fully focused on the Premier League and the Boxing Day period is often decisive on the outcome of the standings at the end of the season.

The loss of Bryan Mbeumo could be highly detrimental to Manchester United. Rather than recruit a player on the transfer market at a high price, Ruben Amorim will draw from within his academy. According to information from the Daily Mail, the Portuguese coach is reportedly considering offering a promotion to Shea Lacey, one of the great talents from the training centre.

Shea Lacey, the solution to strengthen Manchester United

The 18-year-old player is shining with Manchester United's Under-21s. This season, he has distinguished himself in all youth competitions and frequently trains with the first team. Whilst he has not yet had his chance professionally, Bryan Mbeumo's absence during AFCON should accelerate the process. With five goals in 11 matches, the Cameroonian attacker is proving indispensable in Manchester United's offensive play.

If the Indomitable Lions manage to reach the AFCON final, then Bryan Mbeumo will be unavailable until the end of January 2026, the time it takes for him to return from his national team duty. A right winger by training, Shea Lacey can also play on the left side and even deeper on the pitch. His versatility is certainly a quality that greatly appeals to Ruben Amorim, who often asks his players to switch positions in his traditional 3-4-2-1 or 3-4-3.
