Gianluigi Donnarumma, sidelined by Paris Saint-Germain, is set to leave the French capital club this summer. The Italian goalkeeper has reportedly already reached an agreement with Manchester City, who are looking to pay as little as possible.

The decision has been made: the 26-year-old will depart the European champions this summer. Luis Enrique revealed that the situation depends entirely on his “decision”, as the coach wants a new goalkeeper profile. This explains the recruitment of Lucas Chevalier, younger and more comfortable with the ball at his feet. With one year remaining on his contract, Donnarumma is being pushed out.

According to L’Équipe, and contrary to statements from Donnarumma’s camp, the move is not entirely a surprise, as the former AC Milan player’s representatives have been in talks with both Manchester clubs — City and United — “for several months”. The French sports daily reports that Donnarumma has already agreed contractual terms with the Cityzens.

What price for Gianluigi Donnarumma?

The next question is how much PSG want to recoup for the Italian, who joined the club on a free transfer in 2021. L’Équipe reports that the “price requested by the board” is “lower” than that paid for Lucas Chevalier, who joined the French champions for €40m (£35.5m) plus €15m (£13.3m) in bonuses. Manchester City are reportedly unwilling to “pay over the odds” for Donnarumma, who is valued at €40m (£35.5m) by Transfermarkt.

Speaking to Sky and relayed by Fabrizio Romano, Donnarumma’s agent Enzo Raiola stated that PSG are asking for “a lot of money” for the player and that for the French side, “it is purely a matter of money”. If L’Équipe’s reporting of a valuation lower than Chevalier’s fee is accurate, it still seems doubtful: signing “one of the best” goalkeepers in the world, according to Luis Enrique — who no longer wants him — for under €40m (£35.5m) would be considered a bargain.
