Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (4/5): Very reliable source gives reasonable confidence
Manchester United had a very poor start to the season under Erik ten Hag and the Red Devils have now replaced the Dutchman with Portuguese coach Amorim as the former Sporting CP boss has signed a contract until the summer of 2027. The Red Devils' top brass is looking to provide Amorim with the best possible squad and are looking at options in the January transfer window.
As per Christopher Michel of fussball.news, Manchester United are looking to sign Kolo Muani on a loan deal this summer as the club is operating on a thin margin with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability (PSR) rules.
Michel is a reputed figure in German football journalism and his report about Kolo Muani can be considered very reliable.
Value (5/5): A loan deal would help United this season
Manchester United are operating on cost-saving mode at the moment after INEOS spent big in the summer to try and support Ten Hag. As such, they can't hand Amorim the chequebook for his transfer window in charge at Old Trafford. However, a loan deal remains within the Red Devils' capabilities and they are ready to sign Kolo Muani on a loan deal, something that Paris Saint-Germain are reported to be open to as they look to cut down the squad size.
It is likely that if a deal is struck, there may be a small fee attached to the move or PSG may ask Manchester United to pay the entirety of the Frenchman's wages for the duration he plays at Old Trafford. This would be a very good and cheap deal for United to enact.
Suitability (5/5): Kolo Muani's best football came in a 3-4-3 system
Amorim's Sporting had become known for their adeptness at operating in a 3-4-3 system and it is expected that the Portuguese coach will likely install the same tactics over at Manchester United. As such, Kolo Muani would fit right into the number nine spot as he has played in a similar setup previously during his time with Eintracht Frankfurt, where he operated as the number nine for Oliver Glasner's side.
Glasner's system was very similar to that used by Amorim and as such, he would fit into the role easily ahead of the likes of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
Upgrade? (4/5): A good short-term punt as Hojlund develops
In terms of their overall ceiling, Hojlund definitely triumphs over Kolo Muani. However, at the moment the Danish striker could do with some help as he continues to settle into the rhythm at Old Trafford and develops his skills.
Kolo Muani could offer some differing skill sets to that offered by both Hojlund and Zirkzee and Amorim's attack some much-needed pace in attack, a trait that both the current options lack.
Logic (4.5/5): A good change of scenery for Kolo Muani
Kolo Muani is clearly a sporadic choice for Enrique at PSG with the likes of Bradley Barcola, Marco Asensio and Kang-In Lee preferred to play as the centre-forwards with no place for an out-and-out striker. As such, Kolo Muani's confidence has fallen and it is very apparent in his performances with the national team.
As such, a temporary move away from the Parc des Princes to Old Trafford should benefit both the striker and Manchester United, and potentially help PSG get a better transfer fee for Kolo Muani if they plan on selling him in the summer of 2025.
Whisper+ final verdict – 22.5/25
Given Amorim’s work with some of Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres and turning the Swede into a European superstar, he should help make a positive impact on an under-confident Kolo Muani.
Additionally, the move will also benefit the development of Hojlund as it will help take the brunt of the pressure away from his shoulder as he looks to build up confidence and become a mainstay at Manchester United.
