With the January transfer window just days away, Manchester United could receive a €25m (£21m) offer from Galatasaray for a player who is on his way out.
Signed by Manchester United from Paris Saint-Germain for €50m (£44m) in the summer of 2024, Manuel Ugarte (24) has failed to establish himself as a key player for the Red Devils. The Uruguayan defensive midfielder is a backup option in Ruben Amorim's eyes, only being used in the absence of Casemiro or Bruno Fernandes.
Galatasaray keen on Manuel Ugarte
His situation is unlikely to change in the coming months, as the Red Devils are also looking to strengthen their midfield during the 2026 transfer window. As a result, Manuel Ugarte appears to have a bleak future at Manchester United and is among the five favourites to leave the club in the next window, alongside Joshua Zirkzee and Tyrell Malacia.
Despite his difficult recent spells at both Manchester United and PSG, the Uruguayan international remains a sought-after player in the market. According to Turkish newspaper Türkiye, Galatasaray are very interested in his profile. The Turkish club are reportedly preparing a loan offer with an option to buy set at €25m (£21m).
Manchester United demand at least €30m
However, this is unlikely to be enough to convince Manchester United directly, with the Red Devils reportedly holding out for at least €30m (£25.5m) for their midfielder. Galatasaray, who are top of the Süper Lig and competing in the Champions League this season, represent an attractive opportunity for Ugarte to get his career back on track.
To persuade him to move to Turkey, Galatasaray can also count on their former legendary goalkeeper Fernando Muslera and current midfielder Lucas Torreira. The two Uruguayans have reportedly intervened to convince the Manchester United man to seize the opportunity represented by a transfer to the Istanbul club.
