Man City vs Arsenal last five H2Hs: Time for Arsenal to end the streak?

Man City and Arsenal are set to go head to head at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon in what is the biggest Premier League match of the season so far. Just one point separates the two clubs at the top of the table and a win for Arsenal would make it very difficult for Man City to make it four league titles on the bounce this season.

Man City vs Arsenal H2H record

The Man City vs Arsenal rivalry is an interesting one because for up until 2008, Arsenal were completely dominant in this fixture. However, since Man City were purchased by Sheikh Mansour, they have had a vastly superior record over the Gunners. In total, there have been 210 meetings between the two clubs.

  • Man City Wins: 65
  • Draws: 45
  • Arsenal Wins: 100

The rivalry has been fairly heated since City's takeover, especially during the late 2000s and early 2010s when the Blues made a habit of signing some of Arsenal's top talent, including Samir Nasri, Bacary Sagna and Emmanuel Adebayor.

Arsenal 1-0 Man City – 8th October 2023

The most recent Arsenal vs Man City H2H took place at the Emirates Stadium in October 2023. Both teams had started the season fairly well but Arsenal were looking for a big win to cement themselves as title challengers. That victory was delivered on the day thanks to a late strike from Gabriel Martinelli which wrong-footed Ederson due to a heavy deflection. It wasn't the prettiest of football matches but Arsenal did what they needed to do to get the three points.

Arsenal 1-1 Man City – 6th August 2023

Arsenal and Man City met in the 2023 Community Shield at Wembley with the Gunners earning their place at the season's curtain raiser after finishing 2nd in the Premier League in 2022/23. The match was City's first competitive outing since winning the treble two months earlier and it looked like they were to win another trophy when they led 1-0 going into stoppage time. However, Leandro Trossard equalised in the 11th minute of added time to send the match to a penalty shootout which Arsenal won.

Man City 4-1 Arsenal – 26th April 2023

In April 2023, Man City effectively wrapped up the Premier League title when they demolished Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium. Arsenal's form was bleak coming into the match after a string of bad results saw them surrender a commanding lead at the top of the table and things went from bad to worse when Kevin de Bruyne put City ahead after just seven minutes. Things never improved from there for Arsenal and City ended up winning the league with two games to spare.

Arsenal 1-3 Man City – 15th February 2023

Two months prior to their ‘title decider' at the Etihad Stadium, Arsenal welcomed Man City to the Emirates Stadium in another huge game. Arsenal were three points clear of Man City with a game in hand coming into the match so a win would have left the Blues with a mountain to climb. However, they did what they needed to do thanks to goals from Kevin de Bruyne, Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland. It was their seventh consecutive victory over the Gunners.

Man City 1-0 Arsenal – 27th January 2023

Man City and Arsenal met for the first time in the 2022/23 season in the FA Cup fourth round. Both managers played close to full-strength sides but it was central defender, Nathan Ake, who scored the one and only goal of the match in the second half. Some people consider this match the psychological blow that planted seeds of doubt in the minds of the Arsenal squad who had been near-perfect in all competitions up to this point.

Potential MVP – Phil Foden

Several players across both squads are injury doubts after a turbulent international break but one man who has come back from the break healthy is Phil Foden. Alongside Erling Haaland, Foden was probably the player Guardiola was most concerned about during the international break due to how electric the 23-year-old has been this season so to have him fit and ready is a big boost for City.

Foden has scored 18 goals already this season, which is comfortably his best goal return in a single season. He has also picked up ten assists and is in the running for the Player of the Season award. If he can lead the Blues to victory on Sunday, then you wouldn't back against him.

Key trend

Man City's eight-match winning streak over Arsenal was snapped in October when the two sides met at the Emirates Stadium but City still hold a phenomenal record against the Gunners at the Etihad Stadium. Arsenal's last win at City's home came in January 2015 but the stars may have aligned in terms of injuries and form to give them a great chance of ending that streak on Sunday. Arsenal are priced at 29/10 (3.90) to win on Sunday.
