Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (1.5/5): Little knowledge of Reds interest
Ademola Lookman is looking for a return to the Premier League and has told Liverpool he wants to move from Atalanta to Anfield.
Teamtalk.com is reporting this story, and while Lookman is clear on his intentions, there is little so far to suggest Liverpool have any interest in him.
Value (2/5): Atalanta not keen on selling
A sensational hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final sent interest in the Nigeria international to new heights, yet Atalanta held onto the now 27-year-old.
They intend to do the same in January, with bids well above his £45.7 million valuation unlikely to turn the heads of the Bergamo outfit, but if Lookman tries to force a move through, Atalanta may have to come to the table.
Suitability (3.5/5): Versatile, but poor PL history
Lookman's capability of playing on either wing or as a second striker would make him highly useful for Arne Slot's 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 formations.
However, he managed just six goal involvements in 48 appearances for Everton from 2017 to 2019, while he managed only 11 goals in 96 Premier League outings.
Upgrade (2/5): A rotation option at Anfield
Lookman has played much more often on the left and through the middle than on the right, so would not be suitable to replace Mohamed Salah.
With Slot getting a tune out of Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz on the left and a whole host of central options, it's hard to see Lookman as anything other than a squad player for the Reds.
Logic (1/5): Not a priority for Reds
Liverpool's need to either tie Salah down to a new deal or find a replacement is unlikely to take them in the direction of Lookman.
His desire to prove himself in England is admirable, but it makes little sense to go where he's not wanted.
Whisper+ verdict: 10/25
Lookman's words could spark interest from Anfield, but we aren't holding our breath. He is a real talent, but his skills and position aren't what Liverpool need right now.
