Authenticity (1.5/5): Football Insider isn't very reliable
Liverpool are preparing themselves for Virgil van Dijk's potential departure, as the Dutchman's contract is due to expire at the end of the campaign. Accordingly, the Reds have added Dean Huijsen to their shortlist of central defender targets.
That is according to Football Insider, who isn't the most reliable outlet in the winter window and accordingly, it's best to take their claim with a pinch of salt.
Value (3.5/5): Release clause in his contract
The Spain U21 international moved to Bournemouth for a fee in the region of £12 million. The Cherries are in line to make a huge profit on their signing as he reportedly has a release clause of around £50 million in his contract. Whether Liverpool would be willing to spend that much after just 12 months of his arrival in England remains unclear.
Suitability (3.5/5): Top defensive talent
His release clause is not easy to afford but considering he has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water, it makes sense why Bournemouth added that figure in his contract after signing him from Juventus. The Spaniard is technically a brilliant defender and hasn't struggled at all when dealing with the league's physicality.
Upgrade? (3/5): Van Dijk replacement or understudy?
In the event Van Dijk leaves, Huijsen would come in as his straightforward replacement. However, it is suggested that Liverpool still want to keep their leader and strengthen their backline. Should he decide to stay, the Bournemouth man could be signed to replace the ageing Dutchman in the future and learn from him while he is still in Merseyside.
Logic (2.5/5): Big ask
Huijsen has immense potential but the responsibility to replace a legend like Van Dijk at Anfield would add plenty of pressure on his young shoulders, especially since Ibrahima Konate hasn't shown so far that he is ready to lead the Reds' backline.
It would make sense for Arne Slot to sign at least two centre-backs, including Huijsen, to compete for the left-sided centre-back role in his setup should the Netherlands international depart.
Whisper+ verdict: 14/25
If Liverpool come calling, Bournemouth might not be able to hold onto their defensive prodigy for long.
