Authenticity (3.5/5): Liverpool enter Gyokeres chase
Liverpool have entered the race to sign Viktor Gyokeres, having monitored the Sporting CP talisman for several months. The 27-year-old is also wanted by Arsenal and Manchester United.
The story comes from Portuguese publication Correio da Manha, which adds that Gyokeres has already made it known to Sporting that he wants to leave.
Value (2.5/5): Sporting remain firm
Gyokeres and Sporting's relationship has reached a point of no return due to the two parties' disagreement over his valuation. The Lions are demanding north of £68million for him, while the player believes he has an agreement to leave for less than £60million. Sporting continue to insist that they will not lower their demands.
Suitability (4.5/5): Prolific goalscorer
It is claimed that Gyokeres is viewed at Liverpool as a striker capable of making a difference in crucial moments and leading the side to another league title and Champions League trophy. Known for his killer instincts and sharp movement, Gyokeres scored more than 50 goals last season and is certainly capable of improving the Reds' attack.
Upgrade? (4/5): Nunez replacement
The Sporting star would come in as Darwin Nunez's direct replacement, with Liverpool understood to be in talks with Napoli over the Uruguayan's transfer. Nunez has proven to be a menace in the final third but he has often left fans frustrated with his finishing. That shouldn't be the issue with Gyokeres leading their line.
Logic (4/5): Player keen to play in the Premier League
It is added that Gyokeres is very keen on moving to the Premier League. His preferred destination seems to be Arsenal but should the Gunners fail to find an agreement, he would be very open to moving to Liverpool.
Whisper+ verdict: 18.5/25
At this point, the biggest hurdle for Gyokeres' suitors is meeting Sporting's asking price.
