Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (4/5): Sky Sport Germany reporter makes bold claim
Liverpool are closing on Florian Wirtz but the Bayer Leverkusen forward is not the only Bundesliga star on their radar. It is believed the Reds are “seriously in the race” for Hugo Eiktike, having already held talks for him.
The story comes from Sky Sport Germany's Florian Plettenberg, who adds Chelsea are Liverpool's biggest rivals in their pursuit.
Value (2.5/5): Frankfurt won't budge
Having already sold their star Omar Marmoush to Manchester City in January, Eintracht are reluctant to part ways with their sensational striker. It is claimed the Frenchman's suitors would have to pay north of £80million to have any chance of securing his services this summer.
Suitability (4/5): Silky number nine
You don't usually see the word “silky” associated with strikers, but Ekitike is special. Akin to a winger, the 22-year-old is impressive with the ball at his feet and always looks to take on defenders. However, his finishing ability is as good as the top strikers in Europe, underlined by his tally of 22 goals in all competitions.
Upgrade? (4.5/5): Nunez replacement
Darwin Nunez, who is the opposite of “silky”, is destined to exit Anfield this summer. As such, there would be a clear spot in Arne Slot's attack for Ekitike to come in and make his own.
Logic (4/5): Promising next step
Ekitike appears ready to leave the Bundesliga for a bigger challenge. Chelsea are also in the mix but they are not the most organized project out there. Meanwhile, with Salah on the right side, and possibly Wirtz behind him, the ex-PSG man could thrive at Liverpool.
Whisper+ verdict: 19/25
Liverpool might find it easy to convince Ekitike to move to Merseyside but it is going to be an uphill task to meet Eintracht's demands.
