Authenticity (3/5): Bournemouth not standing in his way
Bournemouth will be entertaining offers for their Ghanaian international Antoine Semenyo in the summer, with Liverpool first in line to make a deal.
This news was broken by footballinsider247.com, one of the main churners of the rumour mill, whose source is experienced transfer journalist Pete O'Rourke.
Value (4/5): One of the league's most exciting talents
The 24-year-old has had a blistering start to the season with four goals and an assist, and only Erling Haaland has had more shots in this season's Premier League.
That kind of attacking intent doesn't go unnoticed, and Bournemouth will want every penny for Semenyo, under contract until 2029. He is valued at a fairly low £16.5 million by Transfermarkt, but we can expect the Cherries to want £40 million or more.
Suitability (4/5): Anfield brings extra pressure
Semenyo has enjoyed being a big fish in the relatively small pond of the Vitality Stadium. A move to Liverpool, especially as a replacement to a club legend in Salah, will bring new pressure.
If he can handle that, he will be right at home in either the 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formations deployed by Arne Slot.
Upgrade (3/5): A big challenge ahead
Assuming Liverpool did not sign any of the other right-wingers on their shortlist, Semenyo would be a guaranteed starter for the Reds.
But is he an upgrade on Salah? Maybe not right now, but Salah did not make an impact in the Premier League until he was 25, so there is plenty of time for Semenyo.
Logic (4/5): A good move for all
Liverpool could do a lot worse than signing an experienced player in a position they need to fill, the time seems right for Semenyo to make a step up to a team challenging in Europe, and Bournemouth clearly believe a sale is in their interests.
Whisper+ verdict: 18/25
With Bournemouth unlikely to sell until the summer, this move will come too late to propel Liverpool even further ahead in this season's title race.
However, while an element of risk remains, this is the kind of deal which could lead to further success as the Slot era progresses.
