Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (3/5): Sources reliability can be questioned
Liverpool a stressing over Salah continuing in at Anfield after the end of the current season. As such, the Reds are continuing to look for potential replacements while also trying to work on handing the Egyptian a new deal.
CaughtOffside are now reporting that Arne Slot’s side are showing interest in Sporting star Geovany Quenda. The 17-year-old is being linked as a potential long-term replacement for Salah regardless of his departure in 2025. The report has suggested that Quenda has a release clause worth €100 million (£83.3m) and the Reds are likely to face competition from a number of clubs including Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City.
Caught Offside is a well-known publication, however, they are not known for their accuracy in transfer reports.
Value (3/5): Asking price too high for a 17-year-old
The report has mentioned that Sporting are only interested in letting Quenda leave this summer as long as the club is ready to pay his entire release clause.
While the 17-year-old is highly rated and has the potential to become one of the world's best wingers over the next few years, the price tag mentioned in the report is entirely too high for an unproven youngster.
Suitability (2.5/5): Not a typical right-winger
The Portuguese youngster is a right-winger who has played as a right-wing-back under Ruben Amorim at Sporting and has established himself as a key player.
It remains uncertain whether the 17-year-old can cut it as a proper right-winger at the moment, however, he possesses the skills necessary to succeed under Slot in the future.
Upgrade? (2.5/5): A young option but not an instant upgrade
Quenda has shown a lot of promise as an offensive right-wing-back however at the moment he lacks a lot of panache to immediately succeed at Liverpool.
The Reds have Federico Chiesa on the sideline in case of Salah’s departure and despite his current injuries, the Italian remains a very skillful option and would be the pick over Quenda in the short-term.
Logic (2.5/5): Price too high even for a promising youngster
Liverpool have a lot of headaches at the moment with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contracts also about to end in the summer of 2025.
The club will likely have to make a number of recruitments next summer and as such, it does not make much sense to splash €100 million on one position.
Whisper+ final verdict – 19.5/25
Liverpool have had a wonderful star to life under Slot, and will be keen on handing the Dutchman the right tools going forward regardless of what happens this season.
The Reds will have a lot of tinkering to do with the squad once the current season winds down, and as such, it would be better for them to make sensible choices with regards to how they spend their transfer budget
