Authenticity (2.5/5): Top reporter adds weight
Makeshift full-back Joshua Kimmich has emerged as a target for Liverpool as they look to replace Real Madrid-bound Trent Alexander-Arnold.
This is being reported in The Sun, but the news was broken by BILD reporter Christian Falk, one of the top sources for German news.
Value (4/5): Current deal expiring
Turning 30 next month, Kimmich still has a market value of £41.5 million, but crucially is out of contract in the summer, giving Liverpool the chance to get him for a lower fee.
A regular feature for Vincent Kompany's side this season with seven goal involvements from 24 appearances, Kimmich is showing no signs of slowing down just yet.
Suitability (2/5): Mainly a DM
In 414 Bayern appearances made across almost a decade in Bavaria, Kimmich has played more than 50% of those games as a defensive-midfielder, with 126 matches at right-back – his secondary position.
The UEFA Champions League winner knows what it takes to play at full-back at the highest level, but Liverpool surely need a specialist to fill Trent's boots.
Upgrade? (1.5/5): Chalk and cheese
For many, Kimmich will be a better all-round player than Trent and an upgrade at right-back to youngster Conor Bradley.
However, when comparing the right side of defence, getting forward on the flank and crossing abilities, Kimmich does not possess the talents of the Englishman.
Logic (2/5): Could work out at DM
If Liverpool want an upgrade in the core of their midfield, they can do a lot worse than make a move for Kimmich, but they will have to look elsewhere for a right-back.
Kimmich has also been the subject of a rumoured move to Man City to cover Rodri, which looks a more sensible option, should staying at Bayern not be on the table.
Whisper+ verdict: 12/25
Liverpool need to get their Trent replacement spot on, and this does not look to be the answer.
