Giorgi Mamardashvili Liverpool transfer fee: £30m bargain for Alisson successor

According to football journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, any Giorgi Mamardashvili Liverpool transfer fee will be around £30m. An agreement is on the verge of being completed, with only a couple of final steps remaining in terms of payment terms and deal structure.

Valencia have inserted a sell-on clause, and Mamardashvili will spend the rest of this season on loan at the La Liga club before eventually moving to Liverpool in the summer of 2025.

The 23-year-old has reportedly been on a long list of Liverpool transfer targets for this summer transfer window, and now it looks like the deal will go through soon. He is expected to be the long-term successor to Alisson at Anfield, as the Brazilian goalkeeper will turn 32 years of age in October.

Giorgi Mamardashvili Liverpool transfer fee represents a good bargain

Considering that Mamardashvili is currently valued at around £40m by Transfermarkt, Liverpool could be getting a potential bargain by signing him for £30m.

Indeed, Valencia only conceded 45 La Liga goals in 2023/24, with only five teams overall conceding fewer, despite Valencia finishing in ninth place in the end. A lot of that is down to Mamardashvili, who kept a total of 13 clean sheets in the division, the joint-fourth highest of all goalkeepers.

He really made a name for himself at the UEFA European Championships this summer in Germany, starring for underdog nation Georgia in their debut tournament.

Indeed, he made a string of impressive saves in the group stage, including a memorable one in Georgia's final group game against overwhelming favourites Portugal, as he managed to keep a clean sheet in a 2-0 victory that sent Georgia through to the round of 16, where they lost 4-1 to eventual champions Spain.

It will be very difficult for any goalkeeper to follow in the footsteps of Alisson at Liverpool, as his heroics have helped them win both the Premier League and UEFA Champions League in recent seasons, as well as a memorable headed winner against West Bromwich Albion in the dying seconds when coming up for a corner, which helped ensure qualification for the Champions League at the end of 2020/21.

Nonetheless, Mamardashvili certainly has the capabilities to become a world-class goalkeeper in the future, and at just 23 years of age, he has plenty of time to improve under new Reds manager Arne Slot.
