Authenticity (3/5): The Sun suggests Branthwaite's replacement
Everton have identified Burnley defender Maxime Esteve as Jarrad Branthwaite's possible replacement and will make a move for the Frenchman should their 22-year-old star leave in the summer amid interest from clubs like Manchester United.
That is according to The Sun, who is a hit and a miss when it comes to churning out transfer exclusives.
Value (3/5): Burnley slap big price tag
In a separate report early in February, L’Equipe journalist Loic Tanzi claimed Burnley are holding out for a fee in the region of £30 million for Esteve. Accordingly, unless Everton fetch a significant fee from the sale of Branthwaite, they might struggle to meet the Championship side's asking price.
Suitability (3.5/5): Left-footed talent
The Frenchman is a left-footed centre-back who is very composed in possession. He is equally good in duels and like Branthwaite, he is capable of playing on the flank too.
Upgrade? (3.5/5): Potentially better than Branthwaite
Esteve's profile is similar to that of Branthwaite but what makes him potentially better than the Englishman is his fitness. While Everton's star has consistently struggled with fitness issues, the Frenchman has been a reliable presence for Burnley.
Logic (2.5/5): Bigger move awaiting
Everton are in a better situation than Burnley, but Esteve could secure an even bigger move if he waits more at Turf Moor. In January, Spurs showed interest in him and there's a good chance other top sides would also notice his exploits in the Championship.
Whisper+ verdict: 15.5/25
A lot of ifs and buts in this since the Toffees' pursuit of Esteve supposedly relies on Branthwaite's future.
