Authenticity (3/5): Daily Star sheds light on Gyokeres transfer race
Ruben Amorim's hopes of being reunited with Viktor Gyokeres at Manchester United have been dealt a huge blow, as Bayern Munich have strongly positioned themselves to lure the Sporting star.
The story comes from the Daily Star, who add the German outfit have started talks with the Sweden international's representatives.
Value (3/5): High risk, high reward
Gyokeres' contract is believed to be worth £80million, and it is being claimed that Bayern's hierarchy are willing to trigger it.
The figure is certainly eyebrow-raising, but it may prove to be reasonable considering the 26-year-old is one of the most prolific strikers in Europe, having scored 30 goals in 28 appearances for Sporting this season.
Suitability (2.5/5): A different profile
Harry Kane consistently finds himself involved in the build-up under Vincent Kompany, owing to his tendency to drop deep and link up with his teammates. Gyokeres, meanwhile, is a different type of number nine. He thrives in transition, owing to his ability to run in behind defences. He demands fewer touches than Kane but is equally destructive in the box.
Upgrade? (2.5/5): Tricky squad dynamic
There's little doubt about the Sporting talisman's goalscoring prowess. However, he might struggle to start regularly at Bayern from the get-go, owing to Kane's presence in Munich. The England skipper remains one of the most complete forwards in the game and is likely to keep the starting spot next season too. Bayern are also blessed with quality options on the flank.
Logic (3/5): Player finds the move appealing
It is thought that Bayern are in the pole position to sign Gyokeres as the striker has reservations about joining United, who are unlikely to offer him Champions League football next season. Further, he is likely to attract more scrutiny if he joins the struggling Mancunians.
The Bundesliga giants, meanwhile, could hand him more comfortable surroundings.
Whisper+ verdict: 14/25
Bayern are certainly an attractive destination, and if the report is to be believed, they are also ready to spend big. But Kane's presence may leave Gyokeres in a dilemma, especially with United also keen on landing him for Amorim.
