Axel Disasi spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa. While he gained valuable minutes with the Villans, he was unable to secure a permanent exit from Chelsea over the summer, a club he himself does not wish to play for. His former team, AS Monaco, expressed interest in bringing him back, but the transfer was blocked on the final day of the window by FIFA.

The reason was that Chelsea had already filled their loan quota under FIFA rules following an agreement with Bayern Munich over the move of Nicolas Jackson. Jackson’s transfer to the German giants scuppered Disasi’s planned return to Ligue 1, meaning he will remain on the fringes of manager Enzo Maresca’s plans and is reportedly completely outside the first-team setup at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea remain open to his departure, and a January exit is expected. Despite the failed Monaco return, other Premier League clubs have shown interest in the French defender.

Premier League Interest in Disasi

According to CaughtOffside, two Premier League clubs are monitoring Disasi’s situation at Chelsea: Crystal Palace and West Ham. Palace were close to losing Marc Guéhi, who was set to move to Liverpool at the last minute. The deal ultimately fell through as the Eagles were unable to secure a replacement for the England international.

With Guéhi’s contract expiring next summer, he could honour his deal at Selhurst Park, but Palace may sell him in the new year and focus on signing Disasi. West Ham are also reportedly interested, although the player himself is not yet fully convinced about moving to east London, despite Graham Potter’s admiration for him.

The transfer window remains open in Turkey and Saudi Arabia, so there is still potential for Disasi to leave sooner. Another Chelsea player, Andrey Santos, could have moved to Saudi Arabia, but he rejected the offer.

Disasi is under contract at Chelsea until 2029, but it seems unlikely he will see it through at Stamford Bridge, having been completely sidelined by Enzo Maresca.
