Chelsea Christmas betting tips – Markets to watch

Chelsea have slowly started to turn a corner under Mauricio Pochettino, picking up results against Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, before seeing off Newcastle United in the EFL Cup quarter-finals. But the lack of consistency is something that has often put people off backing the Blues.

After their trip to Wolves, in what will be the Premier League's first Christmas Eve fixture in 28 years, Pochettino's side have two favourable fixtures over the festive period post-Christmas against Crystal Palace and Luton Town.

The latter are a side they have already beaten this campaign, but Kenilworth Road has been a very difficult venue to visit lately. So with nothing guaranteed, we are going to delve into some more niche Chelsea Christmas betting tips over these two must-win games.

With some favourable festive fixtures, there are some tasty Chelsea Christmas betting tips.

Chelsea Christmas betting tips

Before diving into the betting markets, it's worth knowing how Chelsea usually fare over the festive period and in particular, the traditional Boxing Day or December 27 fixtures.

Immediately after Roman Abramovich took over the club in 2003, Chelsea were dominant in the first fixture after Christmas Day, going 14 years without tasting defeat on these days. But 2019 and 2020 brought defeats, before a rebound (a 3-1 win over Aston Villa in 2021) in their most recent ‘Boxing Day' fixture.

With last year's Qatar World Cup disrupting all tradition, Chelsea will be hoping to reassert themselves as a dominant side in this hectic period of the Premier League season.

Chelsea vs Crystal Palace – Raheem Sterling to assist Cole Palmer & Palmer to assist Sterling: 66/1 (67.0)

While this outcome is always a stretch and very outlandish, if anyone is going to make such a big call, it is likely to be Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling. The two of them are first and third when it comes to goal involvements in the Premier League for Chelsea.

Palmer has six goals and three assists to his name, while Sterling is enjoying a good run of form under Pochettino with five goals and two assists respectively, and with them both pretty nailed on for starts and good minutes, this combination could provide a Christmas surprise just two days after the 25th.

Nicolas Jackson is another one to consider with eight goal involvements in the Premier League. However, there is an imbalance – albeit a positive one at face value – as he has seven goals and just a single assist.

For him to return the favour to another player therefore seems very unlikely, so we believe sticking with Sterlign and Palmer is a ‘safe' pick in the unlikeliest echelons of betting.

Chelsea vs Crystal Palace – Nicolas Jackson to outscore the opposition: 7/2 (4.5)

Jackosn is currently Chelsea's top scorer in the Premier League with seven goals, although this is rather underwhelming given the big chances he's missed. There have been 11 of them, and he has put up an XG of 9.7, so he certainly needs to be more clinical if he wishes to lead the line at Stamford Bridge for the foreseeable future, especially with links to Dusan Vlahovic still simmering.

The Senegalese striker will likely be handed the opportunity to start upfront for Chelsea once again with Armando Broja staying rooted to the bench, while Christopher Nkunku is still making his way back to full match sharpness. So backing the striker to outscore a Palace side, who are the fifth-lowest scores in the Premier League with 18 goals in 18 matches, seems to be a sensible option.

Chelsea vs Crystal Palace – Time of the first Chelsea goal 71-80: 12/1

Chelsea had to fight back late in their EFL Cup success against Newcastle – something that is nothing new. This season, Chelsea have scored eight goals between the 61st and 75th minute, so this is why we are going for them to strike first between the 71st and 80th minute, after pushing against a very stubborn Crystal Palace defence.

Roy Hodgson will have his side well organised and know they must be resolute away from home to pick up even a point – much like they did against Manchester City – but with the attacking options Pochettino can call upon off the bench, it'll be too much for Palace to hold out late in the game.
