Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (4/5): City continue to chase Gonzalez
Manchester City are working on signing FC Porto midfielder Nico Gonzalez ahead of Monday night's deadline. However, there is no agreement or guarantee that a deal will be sealed by tonight.
The story comes from the very reputed The Athletic, who have consistently followed City's pursuit of the Spanish midfielder since day one.
Value (2.5/5): Porto want £50m
The 23-year-old midfielder's contract includes a release clause worth £50million and Porto continue to insist the Premier League giants meet that figure, as Barcelona have a 40% release clause. However, so far City have not shown any desire to spend that much on the young star.
Suitability (3.5/5): Six and Eight
What makes Gonzalez an attractive prospect for City is his ability to play as a number six and number eight in the middle of the park. Apart from his versatility, his composure in possession and passing range could improve City's struggling midfield.
Upgrade? (4/5): Short-term Rodri cover
With Rodri still sidelined, Gonzalez is likely to play as a defensive midfielder should he arrive in Manchester as planned. Once Rodri is fit, Pep Guardiola could push the ex-Barca talent higher up the field and make use of his vision and box-to-box presence.
Logic (3.5/5): Appealing destination
The La Masia graduate couldn't cement his place at Camp Nou, but playing under Barca legend Guardiola at the Etihad should be equally appealing for him. Having impressed at Porto, he appears ready for a new challenge.
Whisper+ verdict: 17.5/25
City showed plenty of ambition in the transfer market in January, but it remains unclear if they are ready to splurge big on another player to help Guardiola, who continues to struggle to grind out positive results this season.
