Watford vs Wigan prediction and top betting tips

Watford bagged their first win since changing manager last time out. Can they follow that up again here? Find out with our Watford vs Wigan match preview with free tips, predictions and odds mentioned along the way.

Watford vs Wigan Prediction 1: Watford to win

We kick off our predictions here by backing Watford to beat Wigan. Wigan are struggling in the Championship as they sit eight points from safety having played a game more than fourth bottom Cardiff whilst, notably, they've only won one of their last 10 games. Watford aren't exactly flying either with just two wins in 10 but they've just recorded a first win under Chris Wilder and it came in a big way as they hit Birmingham 3-0. Given they hold home advantage, have renewed confidence and that they've beaten Wigan the last three times they've faced off we think the odds on offer for a home win represent decent value.

Watford vs Wigan Prediction 2: Both teams will not score

The second of our football betting tips for this game comes from the both teams to score market and we are betting on the ‘no' outcome. Watford have seen at least one side fail to score in each of their last four games. Wigan meanwhile have seen two of their last three games end with at least one side blanking in front of goal. Three of the last five head to head matches have seen someone fail to hit the net too.

So, that gives you some insight to how the different bookmakers see the action unfolding. How though do the Watford vs Wigan odds translate into probability ahead of this game? Let's find out.

Watford odds: 7/9 (1.78) – 56%

Draw odds: 5/2 (3.50) – 29%

Wigan odds: 15/4 (4.75) – 21%

Watford come into this game as the bookmaker's odds on favourites for a win and, despite patchy form, that is hard to argue with hence we've backed the Hornets to win in our above predictions. A more cautious bettor could look to opt for the double chance market and cover the home and draw options but those odds don't exactly whet our appetite.

Check out the predicted lineups ahead of Watford vs Wigan

Watford

It's been a long time coming but Watford finally produced a performance in midweek. Chris Wilder will be delighted with that too because to describe the Hornets' absentee list as painful would be an understatement. They've got eight players ruled out through injury including the likes of Tom Cleverley and Tom Dele-Bashiru whilst Hamza Choudhury is suspended. With all that considered, an unchanged lineup is likely for this match.

Predicted lineup – Bachmann, Porteous, Cathcart, Hoedt, Ngakia, Sema, Louza, Bacuna, Kone, Pedro, Davis

Wigan

Wigan earned a credible draw in the week against Coventry and with just two players – Martin Kelly and Jason Kerr – out injured, things are looking good from a squad perspective for the Latics. The big question mark ahead of this game is whether or not they opt for any rotation in the side and, if so, where that occurs. We believe Ashley Fletcher could drop out of the XI with Charlie Wyke, who is recently back to fitness, coming in for a start.

Predicted lineup – Amos, Hughes, Caulker, Nyambe, Darikwa, Power, Tiehi, McClean, Sinani, Wyke, Keane

Player to watch

There was talk ahead of the last match that Keinan Davis might be dropped from the Watford side but he repaid his manager's faith with a strong display capped off with a goal against Birmingham in midweek. That strike was Davis' fifth of the season but also his first of 2023. With confidence such an important part of a strikers game, we could see Davis playing with an extra spring in his step here.
