Returning home for the second time in the space of four days, Bristol City welcome an out-of-form Watford side to Ashton Gate on Friday night looking to bounce back after losing to newly-promoted Lincoln City during the week.
The Robins have made an inconsistent start to life under Michael Skubala but could move into the playoff places with victory, while the Hornets have won just twice all season and sit only four points clear of the relegation zone.

After a turbulent 2025-26 season that saw Gerhard Struber arrive and depart before Roy Hodgson returned to the club 44 years after his previous spell in charge, Bristol City turned to Michael Skubala as their new head coach.
Skubala had guided Lincoln City back to the second tier after 65 years away, with his Imps side cruising to the League One title last season after accumulating more than 100 points.
The former Lincoln boss endured a difficult start to life at Ashton Gate, with Bristol City suffering an EFL Cup defeat to League Two Walsall before losing to Millwall on the opening day of their Championship campaign.
A run of four games unbeaten, starting with a draw before wins over Portsmouth, Preston North End and Burnley, came to an abrupt end at the weekend as they fell to a 4-1 defeat on the South Coast against playoff hopefuls Southampton.
However, the Robins responded impressively, going four games unbeaten with a draw followed by victories over Portsmouth, Preston North End and Burnley, before that run was ended by a heavy 4-1 defeat to Southampton on the south coast at the weekend.
The scoreline did not necessarily reflect how the game played out, with Bristol City recording 11 more shots than their opponents despite being comfortably beaten on the scoreboard.
A similar pattern emerged on Tuesday night, with the Robins registering twice as many shots as Lincoln City but once again coming away empty-handed.
Skubala's side now return to Ashton Gate for their third match in less than a week, hoping to improve a home record that has already seen them suffer three defeats this season following a 2025-26 campaign in which they won just nine league matches on their own patch.
As for Watford, the Hornets travel to the South West desperate to halt a disappointing start that has seen them win just two of their opening seven Championship matches.
The club entered the 2026-27 campaign under Alessio Dionisi, who replaced Ed Still following his departure in May after less than three months at Vicarage Road.
Dionisi became Watford's 12th permanent head coach since the end of the 2020-21 season, while he is the 24th manager to take charge since the Pozzo family took control of the club in 2012.
That managerial instability has been reflected on the pitch, with Watford yet to improve upon a disappointing campaign last season in which they finished 16 points outside the playoff places.
The Hornets currently sit 17th, just four points above the relegation zone, and their only league victory since a surprise opening-day triumph over playoff hopefuls Southampton came against Preston North End last week.
Watford failed to build on that result, though, suffering a 2-1 home defeat to Stoke City on Saturday after Eric Bocat and Jack McGlynn scored either side of half time.

Despite Bristol City's inconsistent home record over the past 12 months, the Robins head into Friday's contest as clear favourites and we expect them to claim another three points.
