West Ham transfer news: Hammers ‘enquire’ over loan move for Sunderland winger

West Ham United’s summer plans are beginning to crystallise, with Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor firmly among their leading targets.

Attention, however, has turned to another Black Cats asset. Ivory Coast winger Simon Adingra has emerged as a concrete option for the Londoners.

The Hammers suffered a bruising relegation from the Premier League last term, and clawing their way back to the top-flight is now their overriding objective.

Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie has reported on this matter, revealing West Ham’s initial loan enquiry for Adingra. This is separate from their ongoing negotiations for Isidor, who Sunderland are not willing to let go.

Adingra moved to Sunderland from Brighton & Hove Albion for £20.5m, and featured 15 times before manager Regis Le Bris sanctioned a half-season loan to AS Monaco during the 2025/26 campaign.

The Abidjan-born forward progressed through the ranks of Danish club Nordsjaelland prior to his Brighton switch in 2022.  

Adingra made his national team debut in 2023 and celebrated AFCON glory that same year. He saw 15 minutes of action at the 2026 World Cup, featuring in Ivory Coast’s 2-1 group stage loss to Germany.

West Ham slumped to 18th in the Premier League, condemning them to Championship football for the first time since 2010/11.

Nuno Espirito Santo will be eager to sharpen his side’s cutting edge, with just 46 goals across 38 league games last season en route to relegation. Adingra’s dynamism and directness out wide will be of paramount importance.

While the winger failed to produce a telling impact last season, either on Wearside or in the Principality, dropping into the Championship in search of regular minutes makes considerable sense for his development.

A temporary move would also place minimal strain on West Ham's finances, particularly in the wake of the high-profile exits of Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville.

Monaco, RB Leipzig and AS Roma have all been linked to Adingra.
