Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (4.5/5): Source rarely puts a foot wrong
Tottenham Hotspur have slowly been dropping off in terms of importance as one of the Premier League's big six due to a lack of performances since Mauricio Pochettino's departure in 2019.
Ange Postecoglou is now keen to bolster his attacking options and wants to bring a new profile into his squad as per Football Insider, and the 29-year-old fits the bill with the club's top brass wanting to make ‘sensational' signings to put the club back on the radar.
Football Insider generally have a very good track record with transfer news regarding the Premier League, so there is no reason to believe the Grealish report is off-target.
Value (4.5/5): £60 million not a big ask for Spurs
The report has not suggested any sort of transfer value for the potential Grealish deal. As per Transfermarkt, the England international has a market value of £46 million. Additionally, the former Aston Villa winger has a standing contract with Manchester City until the summer of 2027. As such, Manchester City are unlikely to let Grealish leave the club for a direct rival for a figure lower than £60 million.
Tottenham don't have too many financial issues at the moment, so signing a player like Grealish for £60 million is feasible for a club of Spurs' size.
Suitability (5/5): Left-sided talent fits in Postecoglou's tactic
Postecoglou's Spurs have played an offensive brand of football since the start of last season, however, they have struggled for consistency.
The Australian is a big fan of his wingers being able to invert into the centre of the field, so Grealish would be a proper fit on the left side of Tottenham's attack. Additionally, the 29-year-old can also play as an attacking midfielder when needed, bringing in a lot of versatility.
Upgrade? (2/5): Son and Maddison on form
Tottenham already have Heung-Min Son as their main man on the left wing. The South Korean may not be in top form, but has shown loads of promise under Postecoglou and will have the left wing on lock as long as he stays at the club. Also, the club have 17-year-old Mikey Moore to serve as the back up on the wing.
If Spurs try to sign Grealish as an attacking midfielder, they already have James Maddison in the centre of the field. The England international is one of the best number 10s in the Premier League at the moment, and it is highly unlikely that Grealish would be able to displace him either.
Logic (1.5/5): Grealish not the right man for Spurs
Tottenham have a number of issues all across the board in their squad under Postecoglou, however, signing Grealish would not solve any of them. The only two positions in which Grealish is a natural at are the only two spots that Spurs do not need to upgrade upon.
As for Grealish, while he may not be an outright starter for Manchester City, he has been enjoying decent spells of playing time at a club that is likely to challenge for all the titles once again.
Whisper+ final verdict – 17.5/25
If Grealish does want to leave Manchester City at some point over the next year, he is much better off trying to make a move to other clubs instead of Spurs.
As for the Lilywhites, if they have the kind of cash to sign Grealish from City, they are much better off using those funds to make other signings that could help Postecoglou improve other aspects of the squad.
