Authenticity (2.5/5): Sources suggest Liverpool are still eyeing Marmoush
Manchester City have been negotiating with Eintracht Frankfurt to sign their star forward Omar Marmoush. However, Liverpool are also following the situation amid doubts over Darwin Nunez's future at Anfield.
Caughtoffside have broken this news, adding there is confidence City will get the deal done but Eintracht have so far proven to be tricky sellers.
Value (3/5): Competition could inflate fee
The Bundesliga giants are clearly not too keen on losing their talisman, who has 19 goals and 12 assists to his name this season. It is understood City are working on a potential £67.5 million deal.
However, Eintracht's high asking price is being seen as a stumbling block. The interest from Liverpool (and Arsenal) could potentially further inflate the price-tag for Marmoush.
Suitability (3/5): Prolific versatile talent
The 25-year-old has played as a left-winger, centre-forward, second striker, and attacking midfielder under Dino Toppmoller this term.
As such, Arne Slot could use his talents in different positions and even shape his attack around the Egypt international, especially as his fellow countryman Mo Salah is set to depart Merseyside in the summer.
Upgrade? (3/5): More suited than Nunez
The Uruguayan striker has struggled to impress Slot and has now attracted interest from Al-Hilal. Marmoush isn't a like-to-like replacement as his profile is very different to Nunez.
Having said that, the technically proficient Eintracht star is more suited to playing in Slot's possession-based system than the Liverpool striker, who always appears edgy and in a hurry with the ball at his feet.
Logic (1.5/5): Manchester over Merseyside
Liverpool's interest in Marmoush is only exploratory at this stage while City are pushing to secure his services, indicating just how much Pep Guardiola admires his potential. As such, it would be best for the player to move to Manchester and be part of Guardiola's ever-evolving attack.
Whisper+ verdict: 13/25
Nunez's exit may hand Liverpool a financial boost in their pursuit of Marmoush, but all things point to City being in the pole position to sign the versatile forward. The Reds may have to look elsewhere to find their new talisman.
